Bread Pakora

Ingredients

  • 1/2 tsp Ajwain (Tymol Seeds)
  • 1/4 tsp Asafetida
  • 1/4 tsp Baking Powder
  • 8 Slices Bread
  • 1 Cup Gram Flour
  • 1/4 tsp Nigella (kala Zeera or siya zeera)
  • to taste Salt
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 1 large Onion
  • 2 large Potatoes
  • 2 pods Garlic
  • 1/2 inch Ginger
  • 1/4 tsp Garam Masala Powder
  • 2 tbsp of mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tbsp Cooking Oil
  • 1/2 cup Cooking Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp Red Chili Powder

Method

Prepare The Batter: Mix everything from Ajwain to Salt in a bowl. Add water slowly and keep on mixing it till the batter becomes smooth and thick.

Prepare the Stuffing: Boil the potatoes either in Microwave or in a pressure cooker. Once boiled peel off the skin and mash it. Heat the 2 tbsp oil in a frying pan. Add the Garam Masala powder, and fry it for 1/2 minute. Add the finely sliced onion and fry it till it is light brown. Add grated ginger and garlic and fry it for 3 minutes. Add the turmeric and red chili powder and fry it on slow heat for 10 min. Now add the boiled potato and fry it for another 5 minutes. Then Add 2 tbsp of mozzarella cheese and mix till the cheese melts and blends in with the potato. Your stuffing is ready.

Prepare the Bread Pakora: Heat the 1/2 cup oil in a frying pan. Take 2 triangular pieces of the bread and fill it with the potato stuffing. Dip it in the batter till it is entirely covered by the batter. Deep fry in the oil for about 5 to 10 min. Remember to keep the oil in medium heat.

This is a very tasty snack and goes very well at tea time.

Editor's Note: This looks delicious. For our British and Canadian readers the spices may be readily available. I wasn't familiar with some of the ingredients so I looked them up:

Ajwain - (Other names) Carom, Ajowan, Bishop's Weed, Seeds Of Bishop's Weed Substitutions: A mild oregano

Asafoetida (Other names) Asafetida, Assafetida, Assafoetida, Devil's Dung, Devil's Durt, Food of the Gods (Persian), Laser (Roman), Stinking Gum Substitutions: It has a mild onion flavor so crushed dried onion might be a good substitute.

Garam Masala - This is a blend of hot Indian spices.

Amanda's "A" Quilt

My daughters name is Amanda and I wanted her quilt to be special just for her. So I made her an "A quilt". She loves animal prints. Again cutting a ton of strips in many different colors I sewed them together to make the "A". Using an old blanket for the batting and a black full sized sheet for the backing. She loves it and while we were watching "Extreme Home Makeover" on night, I asked each of my four children what they would NEED to take from our home if we were the family on TV that had a home makeover, she replied..."my A-quilt, Mom" : )

Fantastic Oxypower for Cleaning the Carpet

I don't buy carpet cleaner because it costs too much money. I do however buy Fantastic oxypower, it cleans nearly everything and gets tough, sticky items out of the carpet quickly.

Washing New Red or Black Clothing

When you buy new clothes in bright colors or red or black the best thing you can do is wash them in vinegar water first. That will lock in the dye and keep it from bleeding or fading.

Cheap and Effective Homemade Bug Catchers

They are FREE if you make them yourself. Here's how:

Cut the top of a plastic soda bottle off, right where the bottle starts to curve and get smaller. Take the top and stick it into the remaining bottle, so it is facing down. It should fit great if you cut it at the right spot. Now hot glue it into place. Don't forget to leave the cap off. You now have the perfect bug, spider, earwig and bee catcher. I put sugar water in mine, but for some bugs you can use a piece of meat, worms or anything else you can think of to entice critters. IT WORKS SO GREAT.

Uses for End Rolls of Newsprint

You can get end rolls of plain newspaper from most newspapers. It's width is the longest length of your paper, and it's plain with no print. I use it for the following;

Copying sewing patterns.

Grandchildren love to draw roads and towns on a long roll, or trace each others body on it.

Tear off a long sheet and double it to put fresh backed cookies on.

Cover the windows while you clean your drapes.

Cut it into printer size paper for printing out coloring pages for kids from a kids site.

It goes on and on and I'm still finding things to do with it. It's so cheap, you'll want two, but you could probably never use it all.

Getting Rid of Ants

I moved to Texas last November, and we have noticed that we are getting inundated by more and more tiny ants (sugar ants). At first we just saw them in the kitchen, but now, they seem to be travelling everywhere. I have seen them on the tile in the shower, the bathroom sink, the kitchen sink, counters and walls, and even on the top of my computer tower. How can I get rid of them and make sure that I won't be plagued by another infestation. We never leave food out, and keep all bulk foods in containers. Help!

Threading Needles for the Visually Impaired

My grandmother couldn't see too well, but she was always hand sewing something. I suggest that when you visit a legally blind person who likes to sew, help them out by putting several needles on a spool of thread. They can take off one at a time with more needles to use as they need without having to thread them.

Cleaning Automotive Oil and Grease Stains Off Carpet

My DH manages a chain of automotive repair and tire sales shops. Sometimes I help out by cleaning the shop so he can get home to the family a little earlier. I am baffled as to how to remove stains from the carpet in the customer lounge. It must be automotive grease or oil.

I've used my home Bissel Giant Green Steam Clean Machine with the manufacturer's reccomended cleaning products. I am getting a lot of soil out of the carpet (I presume, b/c the color of the "dump" water is similar to black coffee); yet the stain remains. Any suggestions as to what to try?

Thank you.
Debbie

Recipe for Non Custard Boston Cream Pie

Back in the late 60's My mom would shop at Woolworths, and we got treated to a dessert afterwards. I LOVED the Boston Cream pie. It is nothing like todays version, the cream was like whipped topping or something. I was just wondering if anyone out there had the NON-Custard version?

Copperhead Snake Information

We've been building a cabin in WV and I'm planning on going out in July to start painting the inside.

What I'm concerned about are snakes, Copperheads to be exact. We were out to the cabin a few weeks ago to do some work and my Hubby was weed whacking. When he got up near the road he smelled cucumbers. They tell us that's what you smell when there's one around. He didn't stay there long.

I"m a little afraid, because when I go in July I'm going by myself and planning on staying 3 months.

Does anyone have any kind of advice about what you do when you see a snake and is there anything that you can do to make em leave.

My Finch Has Laid Some Eggs

I have two finch birds a boy and a girl they have laid eggs and I don't know if they are going to hatch. I just received them from a friend and when I got them there was only one egg, the next day there was two. The girl was laying on them, now she is not since I moved her into a different cage and no, I didn't touch them.

What should I do? How long should I wait before I throw the eggs away? Am I suppose to get it warm in the house or should it be at room temperature? These are the first birds that I have ever had.

Thanks,
Kessha Johnson
