Home Haircolor Tips

I have long hair and after making several messes on the floors, walls and countertops when using home hair color, I have two tips that have helped me to keep things neat.

First, take newspapers and spread them out on the floor and counters, making sure that some of the paper hangs over the edge of the counter. Then you can assemble the coloring materials on top the paper without worrying about spills and accidental glops.

To protect your clothing, make a smock by taking a large leaf and lawn garbage bag, turning it upside down and cutting a crescent in the center for your head, and two on each corner for your arms. Slip it over your head and it will protect your clothing from spills and misses. When you rinse your hair out, lay the bag on the newspaper to let any spills dry and when you are done, fold it up and put it in the cabinet for next time!

White Dog (American Bulldog)

White Dog is 2 and is an American Bulldog. He loves to run and play "crazy dog" and mostly he likes to cuddle. This is one of the best dogs I have ever had, he is so soft and loves every one and other animals (even kitties). He is just an angel.

Contests:

These contests are weekly. We pick 2 tip winners and 1 photo winner at the end of each week. Each winner will win $25!

Today's Tips:

Save Webpages of Information to Your Computer

Finding great ideas, patterns and recipes for FREE on the internet is sometimes like a treasure hunt. You want to be able to find it again. Most people will bookmark the page of information in their browser, but often websites disappear or pages change, and the perfect pattern or recipe you found there is no longer available.
Instead of a bookmark, you can save the website to your computer.

Create a folder on your computer to save a copy of that webpage with all the graphics. Go up to the top of your browser, usually under FILE - and click on SAVE. Another option is to print the page to PDF, or copy and paste it into a word file and save it that way.

Happy treasure hunting!

Getting the Last out of Bottles and Jars

Be sure to add a bit of water or some other liquid and rinse out your condiment bottles (ketchup, mustard, BBQ sauce, steak sauce, etc.) to add as seasoning to your homemade soup, hamburger goulash, or any other dish you're preparing. Sometimes you'll be surprised at how much is actually left in the container when some thinks it's "empty". Not all bottles and jars can be easily scraped out with a spatula.

Battery Operated Clock for Power Outages

Power Outage Tip: Keep at least one battery operated clock in running condition. That way you'll still be on time for work and appointments if the power goes out.

Ask for Credit for Poorly Developed Photos

When picking up your prints at the photo lab, be sure and look at your pictures while you are there. Most labs will reimburse you for bad shots that you took. It's not much, but it adds up over time.

Velcro on the Back of Puzzle Pieces

My daughter has TONS of puzzles and at the end of the day, it'd take me a half hour to find all of the pieces. So I attached small Velcro circles onto the back of every piece along with their matching space on the puzzle board. Now everything stays in place and there aren't puzzle pieces littering the bottom of the toybox!

Tin Bucket For Bathroom Trash

I was in need of a bathroom trash container and had no extra money for a new one. My room mate was unpacking old storage items and came across camping gear. In amongst the items, there was a tin bucket, I got the idea to use this for my trash container. I like it so much that I want another one!

Mix Moisturizers for Improved Scent

I bought some inexpensive moisturizer with sunscreen (usually $7-8 per bottle) at the dollar store, but didn't like the scent. I poured the bargain moisturizer into my two bottles of a brand name moisturizer that had a little left in them. The moisturizers mixed together quite nicely, and improved the scent. Not only am I using up the last bit of moisturizer, but I can now use the pumps of the old bottles, which the bargain moisturizer didn't have!

Tips For Preventing Garbage In The Home

Use recycled toilet paper in place of paper towels or facial tissue. Use toilet paper to wipe up bathroom hair or dripped water, etc. Have a roll handy for everyone to use. Toss it into the trash, not in the toilet. Use sponges instead of paper towels for larger spills. Think of the savings to your purse and the planet.

Compost food items that grow from the earth instead of running the disposal or tossing scraps into landfill trash. Find online compost information, learn what is compostable and what isn't. Buy a small garbage container with a tight fitting lid at the sink. Clean up after a meal: put earth worthy scraps in it, ready to take out to the compost bin (all sizes available) or compost heap in your yard. Find out how easy it its to create a nice rich soil compost heap: online. Compost is a natural way to recycle for good living. Gardens bloom beautifully with compost.

Mold on Vinyl Flooring

We recently had to take up some wood subfloor in our kitchen because it had gotten wet and moldy. We were able to take up the vinyl top floor without damage. It, too, had some wetness and mold on the underside. We have aired it out on a porch and applied bleach, but while the mold is gone, the odor is not. Our contractor says it's no big deal, but I am concerned because it still smells moldy. Is there a way to get rid of a mold smell on the back of vinyl flooring? Thanks!

Our Cheeto is scratching all the time. He even has sores where he scratches. Please any one knows of a natural way to control fleas?
