Today's Tips
Want an unusual outdoor piece of artwork? Like wind chimes? My mother taught me this one - First you find mismatched silver flatware about 5 pieces. Anything that suits your fancy. Then if you have forks you bend the tines into curls, the spoons and knives you make waves into. Then you find a cup saucer that speaks to your artistic nature and drill five holes around the rim and one in the center. Drill holes into the handles of the flatware. You can use string, twine, ribbon, fishing line, whatever moves you to hang the flatware in five varying lengths on the saucer. Then string the saucer up somewhere where you'll be able to hear its chimes and you're done!

My favorite uses for these cute little thangs. Please add your ideas.
On my Rolodex, I tape bread tabs on the cards most often used. Write the person's name with permanent marker and it's a real time saver.
This is one item I can't bring myself to throw away. I have a whole china teacup full, isn't that terrible? Other uses I've heard of are using them to scrape a teflon pan and to label extension cords.
Does anyone have any other ideas for using these, maybe especially in craft projects?

Buying a New Car? Take Your Time!
One way that car sales people try to rope you into a quick sell is by creating the impression that you NEED to buy now to take advantage of some deal. Or if you wait a day, the car won't be available. Dealerships and salespeople are out to make a profit off your purchase, not find you the best deal. Take your time buying a car, do plenty of research, shop around and don't be pressured into buying a car quickly. When you buy a car quickly, the dealer almost always wins.

Obedience Training for Puppies
Ehhhh... a funny word, but to a puppy it becomes a clue that it better stop and look at you.
Teach the pup about this word. Use in the following instances:
- Chewing
- Biting too hard
- When you call and he doesn't come
When he makes a mistake, say "ehhh". Praise him when he does a good job.
This is one of the most handy words in early training. I use it as a way to count down my dogs when they have been naughty.
It really works and is a principle of all training. "NO" all the time should not take place, it gets to the point of being ignored.
Remember to use "Ehhh" when biting is a bit too hard, puppies have to be taught not to bite too hard. After saying "ehhh", then redirect them to an appropriate toy. Another way is to say "ouch" and turn away from them and ignore them for a few seconds. I have found the "ehhh" works better.
Also, really bad behavior in a small puppy gets a time out, gently hold a puppy, and when it stops struggling to get down, praise it. This is part of alpha dog training, and you are the alpha dog, not the puppy.
Spanking creates mean dogs, and fear biters.
Use a coke bottle with pennies to shake when the pup is far away and doing something inappropriate.
This is an annoying sound and will get the pups attention. AS soon as the pups attention is on you, praise it.

Editor's Note: I bet the Fonze would love this puppy training method... "Ehhhhhh!"

Removing Road Tar from Your Car
Take road tar off you car by smearing it with butter. Leave on overnight and wipe it off in the morning with a rag. Good as new. My friend had bought a brand new car and took it on her first road trip and went thru some road construction. Her car was covered along the bottom of the doors. We used the butter and her car was beautiful again.

Ever have trouble finding that elusive other glove? Well, I take pinchey clothes pins, thread a string through the hole and nail them to the inside of my closet door. Then I simply hang the gloves together on these clothes pins. Works great for hats, scarves, etc., and I guarantee you will never have to hunt for a matching glove again!

Removing Tomato Stains from Plastic Containers
To remove tomato stains or any other stains from plastic containers use the following method:
Take about 1 cup of bleach & add 3 cups of water. Place this solution into the container that is discolored. Leave in place for about 2 hours. Rinse well with plain water being especially careful not to let the solution touch or splash on your clothes. Happy bleaching.

If you do laundry, dishwashing or any high power-use chores during the hours of noon and 6 pm each day you are probably paying a peak rate for power. Wait and try to do these chores between the hours of 8pm and noon, when your power usage will be at its cheapest.

Feedback: Thrifty Christmas Ornaments?
Save all the colored paper that comes home from the kids school or from junk mail. Cut into strips and then make the strips into loops and make a paper chain.
Any ornament your kids make will always look wonderful on your tree even years from now.
I've seen walnut shell halves decorated and hung from ribbons.
The balls from a sweet gum tree spray painted and hung with a string or ribbon make great ornaments. Try using the seed heads from thistles or other weeds.
Paper snowflakes.

Avoid racing up to stop signs or stop lights -- you are going to have to stop when you get there so just slow down a way back from the stop signal. Then when you leave a stopped position, don't slam your foot down on the gas pedal. And take the junk out of the car and trunk.

Feedback: Whistling for the Kids
My mom always began using a basketball whistle to call me home from playing -- after I disappeared for an afternoon inside a barn where she couldn't see me. The basketball whistle was a great signal to come home.
As for the present, my husband is able to produce a nice sharp whistle and our kids recognize it as the "come here" signal. Sure wish I could make the same sound!

Feedback: Brown Paper Bag Wall Treatment
Materials:
Brown Craft Paper (or used brown grocery bags)
Wallpaper paste
Paint brush (inexpensive)
Bucket
Newspapers
Large damp sponge
Instructions:
1.) Tear the craft paper or grocery bags into pieces approximately the size of a large dinner plate. Tear away all straight edges. Crumple each piece tightly into a ball.
2.) Pour the wallpaper paste into the paint tray. Use the paint brush to apply paste onto the wall in about a 4'X 4' section.
3.) Uncrumple each piece of brown paper and press onto the wall. Do not smooth out all the wrinkles. This will give a lot of texture to the finished wall. Lay down the next piece slightly overlapping the first piece. Press down the edges with the damp sponge and remove the excess paste. You may have to periodically rinse and wring out the sponge. Continue rolling on paste and applying the paper until the entire wall is covered. Allow to dry 48 hours.
Makes it look like a leather or suede look. It's fantastic and if there is a spill or a piece is damaged later you can just add a piece : )

Ingredients:
1 Can Pinto Beans
Small clove of garlic
1 jalapeno pepper
1 Tablespoon Olive or Canola Oil
Directions:
Place all in food processor and blend until smooth.

Hi,
I need to modify some of my bra's because I have a short body and full bust. The problem is wearing strappy tops and other sleeveless type tops with my bra's. I cant stop the bra straps from falling out. Even when I hunch my shoulders they are barely tight but I cant move around with my shoulders hunched all the time.
I want to shorten the bra straps as I cannot shorten them enough by adjusting them normally they are of the thin type and elastic but not elastic enough.
If anyone knows a good method for doing this I would appreciate it thanks.
Sarah
