Hello,
Our contest for the Foodsaver ended yesterday and we have a winner. Congratulations to Debra (from Colorado) who is the winner. We had just over 500 contest entries for the Foodsaver, with over 70 contest entries sent in by Debra, she really increased her odds (and they were great tips). Thank you to Debra for her hard work and everyone else that submitted their wonderful tips. It has been a lot of fun putting this newsletter together and everyone benefits from your generosity.
In our newest contest, which will end on Halloween, we are giving away a $30.00 (US) gift card. The winner will get to choose which store they want a gift card from: Home Depot, Jo-Ann's or Amazon.com. We've had inquiries whether the card will work in Canada. I know there are also readers in the U.K., Europe, Australia and New Zealand. If someone from another country wins we will work with the winner to make sure they can get a gift card that works for them.
Thanks for reading and thank you for all the great contest entries,
Susan

Make Your Own "Sparkling" Apple Cider
Instead of buying expensive sparkling apple cider to have for your special holiday celebration, you can make your own economical version that will be just as good.
You can make it using frozen apple juice concentrate. Just add three cans of seltzer (unflavored) or club soda instead of water. It is cheaper and serves more, and no one needs to know that it didn't come out of the expensive green bottle! Just serve it from a glass or decorative pitcher.

Stretching That Gourmet Coffee
I enjoy gourmet, fresh roasted coffee but the price isn't so much fun. I find mixing the ground gourmet about half and half with less expensive coffee still gives me a fresh roasted flavor but costs much less.

I love candles! I have lots that I collect and never burn. If you have an old candle that may have lost it's shine or has a scratch, take a pair of nylons, wrap it around your hand and rub away! Shines them up every time!

When doing laundry, I pull out any socks with holes or that are stretched out and put them in the rag bag. When dusting, socks work great to get into the little crevices. Just put it on your hand to do the dusting. When done I just toss it or rewash it. There is never a short supply of socks in the rag bag.

Easy Crocheted Edge Of A Polar Fleece Blanket
Take the tip of scissors and poke small holes even spaced along edge of the blanket. Now take regular worsted weight yarn and slip stitch around the blanket. This is easy quick and it gives a unique finishing touch to the blanket. For a baby you could make small slits to run some satin ribbon through, make bows at all four corners.

Find nice pictures of your family and scan them into your computer. Get any of the free Calendar programs off the net (Freeware) and build yourself a calendar. This is especially nice for grandparents if you live far away.

When discarding old clothes collect the shoulder pads and save them to use when polishing metal, such as silver, brass or stainless steel. Their soft padding and small convenient size makes them great for the job. One pad for cleaning and another pad for polishing off. Then wash or throw away.

Additional Mommy Sleep Over Ideas
Make up your own Trivia game using chick flicks as the theme. Who ever can answer the most questions could win a pair of fuzzy slippers. All of us have received beauty machines at one point or another. I have received a hot wax machine just last christmas. You could do manicures and pedicures and everyone gets to use your hot wax spa. See what others have been given, it will give you a chance to use that machine and everyone can have fun also.

Get together a couple of gallons of ice cream, some toppings and bananas for banana splits. Have Dad or a male friend dressed up like the Gay 1890's, handlebar mustache, straw hat, vest and white shirt, white pants to make the ice cream for the kids.
Dress the tables in red, white and pink. Ice cream soda centerpieces can be made by taking a soda glass and filling the bottom with clear glass gems (will look like bubbles from the soda). Then add a pink or red carnation in the center of the glass and surround it will 3 or 4 white carnations. Then add two drinking straws in with the flowers, flowers can be can be real or silk.
Set up a croquet set and let the kids knock the balls around or if they are old enough teach them how to play. Another fun activities would be kites for each kid. Or a good old fashioned game of hide and go seek.

I am searching for ideas on reusing glass flower vases. I want to do something with them for a Christmas bazarre. I have all sizes and shapes of vases and rose bowls. It needs to be something easy and inexpensive, as I have many! I hate having to toss them.
Thanks, in advance, for any 'solutions'!
