I put a 1995 kitchen aid side by side in my house after being disconnected for about a month. Now the ice maker is not working. I read it might have air in lines. Should I just wait a while?

Thanks,
Don from NPB, FL

My ice maker just stop working. The water dispenser is still working, but the ice machine isn't taking in any water to freeze.

I had a problem like this.
When I checked the tubing where it goes into the ice maker, there was frozen water in the end of the tube, which caused it to stop making ice. Once I took warm washclothes and warmed up the end the ice blockage came out and I haven't had a problem since.

Check out sites such as Large Appliance Repair and
Refrigerator repairs on the Internet. I use Google and have had great success in recent years finding
repairmen and parts houses willing with the proper model/serial number to help with most anything, in exchange for your buying the part(s) from them, but I found also there are some competitors there as well with cheaper prices. It might take a few days to get the parts but it has been worth it in the past for
me to postpone the death of an aging refrig. that
made all sorts of strange noises of anticipation! God bless you.

Hi,

I also have a 1980's Kitchenaid side by side. Thinking that it wouldn't last that much longer, I never had it fixed. We bought 16 ice trays (cheap ones), wore them out and got more. That was atleast 5 - 10 years ago. We moved the fridge to where the water line can't go, so don't worry any more about fixing the ice maker.

The door seal is still good, but several shelves have broken and the bottom drawer had to be removed, but we put all the meat there to keep it the coldest. 20 years ago this fridge cost $1500. Our finances have changed and there is no way we could afford another deluxe fridge. So we are very happy with our smart purchase all that time ago, and live with doing the ice by hand, all 16 trays into a replaced plastic bin, all at one time.

The tube delivering the water could be plugged also.
