This is my mom's "Never fail pie crust" recipe: 3 cups flour 1 cup shortening 1 tsp salt 1/2 cup water 1 tsp vinegar 1 egg Beat egg and vinegar with water; work shortening into flour and salt. Add the liquid to the flour and make into five balls. Makes five crusts.

Tip: Vinegar For Flaky Pie Crusts (11/23/2009)
For flaky pie crust, either homemade or ready made, I use vinegar brushed on before adding filling and on top crust. It makes it extra flaky.
