Meet Sebastian (Cavalier King Charles)

He is 22 mos. old and certainly rules our house. We got him when he was 13 weeks old.

Sebastian loves people and is such a joy to have around. His favorite thing to do is greeting people, either at home or on the street while walking.

My Mom and Her Garden

This is a picture of my 86 year old mother who lives by herself, she has a big two story house and a large yard that she takes care of herself, she has a neighbor who mows the yard for her and she does all the rest by herself, as you can see by the size of the flowers she does a great job. She fell this Jan. and broke her right shoulder, hip and pelvis, she had 4 pins put in her hip and had therapy for a month, she is back home and working in her yard again, she just never gives up, I am so proud of her and love her so much. She also does all her house cleaning and it is spotless!

Avocado Hair and Face Beauty Treatment

The only thing that takes frizz and dryness out of my hair is a mashed up avocado mixed with 1 egg yolk. Slather it on damp hair, heat a towel that is damp in the microwave and put towel on hair about 30 minutes. While you are doing that take a small amount of the mixture and do a facial mask with it, after 15 minutes rinse face. Double duty! And once done you can use the pit and grow an Avocado plant!

Storing An Extra Roll of Toilet Paper

If you do not have cabinet bathroom storage space, or it just is not close enough to the toilet, store toilet paper spare roll this way. Cut the bottom out of a tall square type kleenex box and slip it over the top of the roll. It's both pretty and handy, sitting on the toilet top.

Decorate for Christmas Over Time

Here is a great Christmas decorating idea to try. Try decorating ahead of time, I love this. We all get busy and tired the nearer Christmas gets. To stay stress free and get all the decorating done I do it SLOWLY, a little everyday, starting around the 3rd week of Nov. One day, I erect the tree (artificial), every night after that I toss on a few decorations while I watch TV. I also put suction cups in the windows to hold Christmas lights. Anyway, the main message here is start early and work slowly.

Coffee Can Utensil Holder

Save drawer space and rumaging through to find what you want, for kitchen utensils paint or contact paper a coffee can to match your kitchen, and save the lid to put on the bottom. Place the can on your stovetop and it holds a lot and keeps utensils for cooking handy, and the can is pretty as well!

Improving Sandy Soil

Rabbit food (alfalfa pellets) makes a wonderful, inexpensive, natural fertiliser. Simply sprinkle several handfuls around established plants and scratch into the soil, then water well. In a few minutes, it will 'melt'.

You can also mix a handful or 2 into the soil at the bottom of a planting hole when setting out transplants. I always add some water to help it break down more quickly.

A 25 pound bag of alfalfa pellets costs me approx. $4.50. Alfalfa is high in nitrogen and the pellets also contains molasses, calcium and other nutrients that plants really seem to appreciate. I've been using it for about a year and have seen marvelous results in my sandy, TOO-well-draining Florida soil. I've used it mainly on my veggies, herbs and flowering plants.

Repairing Temple Pieces on Eye Glasses Frames

Temple pieces on prescription glass are expensive to have replaced at "Prescription Eye Care Stores", if they are not under warranty.

Go to the Dollar Store and select a pair of glasses, that the temple pieces will fit the broken frame... I did! I saved $24.95 that the eye care store, where I got my glasses, was going to charge.

Quite a savings!

Scuff Marks on Walls

I had a sofa delivered and the movers left a long scuff mark on one of my walls in the hallway. I tried using some cleaners but it looks as though it removed some of the paint. Is there anything I can use to make these marks less visible that wouldn't require me painting that surface?

Chocolate Stains on Clothing

I spilled the kind of chocolate that hardens onto my favorite pants. The chocolate came out but some kind of oily(?) residue has remained. They are 100% cotton.

Thanks for the help,

Organizing a Crowded Apartment

Picture a one-bedroom apartment, three dogs, one husband, and a frazzled newlywed wife. We have a lot of stuff that we stuffed into our apartment, and I need advice on how to organize, simplify, and decorate.

We know and have things in our colors (red, olive, and yellow-gold), but we also have two dog kennels, two tall bookcases, LOTS of books, speakers and wire stuff, baskets, lamps, childhood memory toys, candles, vases, and until recently three loveseats and a couch. (Now we just have one loveseat and a couch.) I can paint if I want, but I don't know that a newly colored wall will help.

Any advice on where to start? (A bigger place is a great idea, but not possible right now.)

Thanks!
Olivia, a recovering pack rat.

Soaking Clothing in a Frontloading Washing Machine

I have a Kenmore Elite frontloading washing machine. Does anyone have any ideas or tricks to let a load of laundry soak? I really miss letting certain clothes to soak overnight. I've tried starting the load & letting it wash for a while & then stopping/pausing it, hoping that would do the trick. But no such luck, it lets the water drain out & then my clothes smell badly.

Mysteries of Makeup Science Project

I wanted to know if there is anyone out there that can help me with my science fair project. I wanted to know how to put it all together. Mine is called the mysteries of makeup and I want to make it look good and actually have interesting things. I can't really think of anything else to do but put which eye shadow stays on the longest or what is the worst lip gloss. I want to do something more so if you have any tips or can give me a site to go to I would really appreciate it! - MiMi

Care Packages for Troops

My husband and a friend recently was deployed to Iraq as civillians attached to military units. My friends and family are wanting to put together simple little care packages for their units and want to try to send one in time for Thanksgiving and one for Christmas.

I have not found anything but the Christmas card idea on this site regarding tips for care packages overseas. I have found a few websites, but a lot of the stuff on there they can get at the px there, they don't need or can't use.

I am wondering if anyone out there has had someone there and had any new creative ideas of things to send over.

I know that now they don't turn away the generic "any soldier" titled mailings, but prefer that mail be directed to a particular soldier because the care packages took up so much time to organize that regular mail suffered and was late or lost trying to get it to loved ones.

With the holidays coming they need all of the support and encouragement they can get!

Thanks!
Tawnda

Melted Plastic on Chrome

Trying to remove a melted stain off my wife's chrome plated exhaust pipes on her motorcycle. She touched her hot exhaust pipes with her nylon motorcycle rain pants and it melted right to the exhaust pipes. I have tried everything I know to clean this up with no luck at all. Don't want to use anything abrasive that will damage the chrome exhaust pipes. Any ideas or suggest would be helpful.

Thanks,
Don
