Caring for a Convertible Top?

Bronze Feedback Medal for All Time! 109 Feedbacks

My dad has a Chrysler with a convertible top. It isn't real dirty but the top hasn't been lowered in a very long time. He is concerned that lowering the top might make it break/rip up. Is there any suggestions for cleaning and treating the top that would "soften" it so it may be raised and lowered without too much concern?

The only posting called "Caring For A Covertable Top" is my own. I did a search and did not find any other posts concerning the care of convertable tops.
