Bran Rolls or Bread

Ingredients

  • 1 cup bran
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 packages. yeast
  • 1 cup warm water

  • 2 eggs, slightly beaten
  • 6 cups flour

Directions

Combine bran, brown sugar, shortening, salt, and boiling water in large bowl and let stand until cool. Add yeast to warm water. Add yeast mixture to cooled bran mixture. Add eggs and flour. Cover this and let rise until double. Knead on floured board and make into rolls or loaves. Rolls are baked in greased muffin tins and bread in greased 8x4 inch loaf pans. Let rise again and bake at 400 degrees F for 12-15 minutes for rolls and 25-30 minutes for loaves. Brush tops with melted butter when you remove from oven. Yield: 3 loaves or 4-5 dozen rolls.
