My son has a Mastiff, he is only a year old give or take a few month and has a horrible doggy smell. My son has a small back yard. He was told that that type of dog does not need large yard, and we find that it's so, but he has a gigantic smell and the neighbors are complaining.
We purchased the "pet beverage" and it seem to help some, but still the odor comes from the dog himself, not so much the urine. Help! We bath him and minutes later he has the same smell. What to use?

Remedies for Stinky Dogs
Listen up. Simple solution. I had same with couple of my rescue (mostly permanent) dogs. We all were going on vacation. Make a long story short, Vet wouldn't give me heartworm preventative. I had to test 6 months after return from vacation.
The couple always really stinky dogs tested positive for microfillaria. There is a second Microfillaria. A worm under skin. A 2 footed worm. Microfillaria are in the blood when a dog has heartworm. They had no heartworm but positive for bi-pedilum nema. (Forgive the spelling).
Great vet in Santa Paula Ca rubbed some ivermectin horse paste on their gums. I called him couple days later to say my dogs had no more stink. He was so grateful. Said there was a vet in Thousand Oaks that was studying this. Then he proceeded to take the time to educate me about the danger if we had not tested for heartworm.
If we had medicated with Ivermectin in the dose needed and the dog did indeed have heartworm, we would have killed it. Heartworms would have floated to the lungs and killed. Have your big baby tested for heartworm. Use caution and dose with ivermectin horse paste according to his weight (100 pound dosage for a 100 pound dog).
Your vet may not approve. That is because he does not know or chooses to charge for other methods like steroids. See what you think and choose what is best but you must test for heartworm first.
When I first got my Chesapeake, he also arrived with a particular brand of dry dog food. He smelled bad and if I petted him I had difficulty getting the odor off my skin. Because this dog food was so expensive I switched him to a big box brand. After a few days his stink disappeared and his smell was much more pleasant, not offensive at all.
Please "speed-dial" your Veterinarian phone number you have a bigger problem than you think. Any breed of Dog can live in a small back-yard providing they are exercised on a regular daily basis.
Yeast problems on the skin require a vet to treat. It is often yeast that is responsible for the doggy smell.
You might take him to the vet and have him looked at. They will take a sample and then you will probably be given a shampoo to use on him and also pills.
Also you might consider giving him a food that has real meat as a first ingredient and make no food scraps.
You have to read the ingredients of dog food to find the ones that have real meat as a first ingredient. By-products are only beaks and claws, etc.
Also it could be impacted anal glands.
My German Shepherd has the same problem with yeast on the skin. Look at drsfostersmith.com and see if there are any products that help with smell and odor.
I think there are products that have chlorophyl in them that help reduce smells coming from people and dogs. The vet is the best bet.
