Fluffy Cat is about (2?) months old. I posted Hades last week, it's his sister's kitten (he is NOT the father.) He likes to scratch up the decorative driftwood on the Patio.
Fluffy Cat has three siblings which I'll likely post over the next several weeks. However, they will likely be moving to a friend's father's farm where they have a rat problem. Though, that will have to wait till they are large enough to be effective mousers. Until then, I get to watch these little adorable kittens grow up.
Being a gardener, I just loved this tomato! Another one of God's gifts to us. This was sent to me in an email. I know there are many readers who would just love this! So I decided to submit the "Angel Tomato"
It also goes to show that you can't always tell from the outside who is truly an angel inside.

This was at the stand of Brenneman's Produce, Vicky Brenneman had sliced open a Tomato and this is what she found ... She put it on display for all to see ... I thought this was awesome, to see something simple to uplift our lives and make us smile. Photo by Dennis Ober
20 3x5 printed paper squares (ex. I used multiple kind of paper but one of them was wrapping paper that I bought in the dollar store).
Paper doilies (enough to cover the rim of the quilt)
Pictures of the women (I copied from the net and from encyclopedias and other books).
Contact paper
If you desire to make it a mother's or grandmother's gift, use family pictures instead.
Directions:
On blank paper I made a small poem to describe the person who's picture was next to it. I suggest that all the above be done before tackling the next section.
Now you need 25x31 inch contact paper.
This part is tricky place contact paper on the table with the protecting sheet removed. Put your doily (only the scalloped edge will be used) around the edge of the contact paper.
Place the 1st picture on the top left hand corner. To the side of it place the poem that goes with it.
Repeat 3 more times.
Next row. Start with the poem and then the picture. Repeat 3 more times.
Now repeat these 2 rows another 2 times. This will finish your quilt. The measurements can be changed according to your desire.
My daughter had a last minute birthday party to attend and I did not know the recipient enough to have an appropriate gift. I also did not have enough money for a store bought gift. This is what I did, I scrounged a metal tea canister from the trash, and drilled a hole on the top for a piggy bank. My daughter decorated it and we filled it to the top with pennies, nickles, and only a few quarters at the top! The birthday child loved counting and recounting his money. Our gift was truly original and more creative than stuffing money into an envelope.
When you have a candle that burns unevenly and wax is left in the jar or in a pillar, you can place the wax in the microwave and melt the wax. If the candle is a pillar, place it in a jar so when the wax melts, you can place the wick into the jar. It is inexpensive to buy a roll of wick at Michael's or WalMart. Cut the wick to the appropriate level of the melted candle and place in the middle of the wax. You have a new candle and your only cost is a few cents for a wick.
I have a cleaning service and if I am dusting particularly dusty furniture, I like to spray orange oil on my rag, run hot water over it and wring it out. The dust clings to the damp rag and leaves a beautiful shine on the wood or plastic, like a television. I like this better than using straight oil as it tends to go on a little heavy. I also use this technique on wood floors. Instead of a rag, I use a roll-a-matic mop and spray the oil in my mop water along with a capful of Murphy's Oil Soap.
If you have several girls or all boys and need to mark clothing, use the dot system. One dot for the largest size clothes, two for the next size down and three for the next size, etc. Then when you hand down clothing, no need to mark out or cover the first mark, just add a dot so the largest becomes 2 dots for the next size down.
A man staggered into a hospital with a concussion, multiple bruises, two black eyes, and a five iron wrapped tightly around his throat. Naturally, the Doctor asked him, "What happened to you?"
"Well, I was having a quiet round of golf with my wife, when at a difficult hole; we both sliced our balls into a cow pasture. We went to look for them and while I was looking around, I noticed one of the cows had something white at its rear end."
I walked over, lifted its tail, and sure enough, there was a golf ball with my wife's monogram on it, stuck right in the middle of the cow's butt." Still holding the cow's tail up, I yelled to my wife, "Hey, this looks like yours!"
First, I turn off the computer. Turn your keyboard upside down and shake it to get residual loose crumbs, dirt, etc. out. Do this several times. Then get a paper towel or soft cloth and spray the cloth with something like 409. Then start cleaning those keys. It'll get all the grime, makeup, etc. off the keys. Clean your phone while you're at it. It's a great time to get the yuck off your items.

Alcohol
I do it the old fashioned way: Disconnect the keyboard from the computer. Pop off all of the keys with a butter knife using a gentle upward motion. Use q-tip slightly dampened with rubbing alcohol to clean inside and soft cloth slightly dampened with same to clean individual key cases. When finished, have fun popping the keys back into their proper place.

Canned Air and Q-Tips
Use canned air first to dislodge the dust and dirt, then use alcohol and a q-tip.

Shower Cap
Just a tip for after you get your keyboard clean. I put a clear shower cap over mine as my kids like to eat and drink at the computer, I was getting tired of looking at the gunk and having being the only one to clean it, the work. I just buy a package of clear shower caps at the dollar store. They come 6 to 12 to a package. When one gets ripped up or grungy I just slip on a new one. The new keyboard has been clean ever since.
As an added note the shower caps also make great bowl covers when you can not find the right lid. My mother in law told me that she loved the one that I left at her house after a family get together. (08/31/2006)
I know this sounds weird, but this really works. I have worked in Computer Tech Support for years and have even done this myself. When you will be gone for a while or will not be using your computer for a couple days, disconnect the keyboard from the computer and put it in the top rack of your dishwasher, upsidedown and wash it. There is nothing inside of the keyboard to hurt it. When it is one, turn upsidedown again, and let it air dry a couple days. If it is a warm windy day outside, you can also set it outside to dry out and it will dry alot quicker. I promise this works.
Editor's Note: Water has meant death to keyboards for me, so this method scares me.
I'd not be willing to test that dishwasher idea personally. I've had keyboards killed due to water spills. Well, OK, one to water... but two to Coke. A higher quality keyboard could likely handle it, but I'd not trust a discount one.
Here's an idea: Take a few hours one day very soon to sit down with a tall glass of lemonade or ice tea and make a written plan for the upcoming Holidays. Map out the season. Spend time assessing past holidays. Analysis is a great way to make sure I don't repeat past mistakes.
I have found the way to relieve holiday stress and eliminate the chance of falling into debt is to start early. The more tasks I can take care of early on, the more it will free me up to enjoy the magic and wonder of the season and to give me some time to give back to others.
May I respond to all the nice people who commented on my home food canning tip? If you want to get started, buy a copy of the newest (2003) edition of the Ball Blue Book. You can find it at hardware stores and your local Cooperative Extension office. Just look them up in the phone book if the hardware store doesn't have a copy. I think mine cost $7.95, which made me flinch but has paid me back a hundred times over and more! Read every single word in that book! It doesn't have a single extra word -- honest! You need it all to figure out processing times.
Regarding the gardening, good gardens are not made in the first season. Just keep building up your soil every year. Keep the soil evenly moist. Make sure sun-loving plants get sun. We found a copy of the old Organic Gardening and Farming encyclopedia many years ago, and it has been a big help to us. Reader's Digest, Better Homes and Gardens and others have also published wonderful guides.
It is absolutely miraculous what profit there can be in a packet of seeds. And that little apple tree you plant now will bear more fruit in a lifetime that you can conceive of. Ours are 20 years old now, and we get many bushels from each one, even though they were damaged by a fire a few years ago. So go for it! Your own food production and preservation are your hedge against climbing gas, postage and grocery prices.
Thanks again for your many kind comments. You made my day!
I have got tips for you. First off you will never cry again when you chop up your onions. All you have to do is keep your mouth clamped shut and not talk while you cut. I just got through cutting up two entire onions and not talking to the cats, lol, that was hard! It works great.
Also, when you are going to peel eggs to devil, I always had problems getting the shell to turn loose. Just stand there at the sink with the water running. The force of the water pushing up against the shell helps so you no longer have torn up egg whites.
My DH used to work in a restaurant, years ago and learned this stuff.
I clean my bathroom regularly, but a day or so later, I can always smell urine. I clean in and around the toilet good but the order is still comes back. There is only my son and I in the house, and he seldom uses my bathroom. I've checked all around for leaks and can't find any. Can some one please tell me how to solve this problem?
My daughter left a bottle of hot pink fingernail polish in her jeans pocket. It is all over my electric dryer with steel metal drum. What can I use to clean it?
Request: Has anyone tried Nu-Eyes carnosine eye drops to reverse cataracts? Does it work? Did you have any side effects? How long did you use it before it helped? Thanks very much.
Does anyone here sell or buy items using Yahoo Auctions. I haven't looked at them in years but see that it's free. Ebay gets quite expnesive. Any tips or comments about it?
I am wanting to be able to do something fun for my kids, and also loving to decorate, though not agreeing with "Halloween", I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to Christian decorating ideas or alternatives to Halloween. I don't want to pass out candy (for one thing we can't afford it) and would rather not have my kids going door to door and asking for it. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
I am looking for simple decorations for my kitchen. My appliances are black and my countertops are black with beige small polka dots. I would like to put something on top of the cabinets like greenery or maybe a few baskets.
With colder weather approaching, I'm interested in some good soup recipes. I would really appreciate if anyone could share some of their family favorites!
My birthday falls on Halloween and for my 30th next year, I wanted to have a ball (like the royal families have) but I don't know how to go about it. I know I need time planning and my friends are willing to help but I need guidance. Please help. I cannot find costume rental places in NJ (it's cheaper to rent than to buy the ball gowns).
How do you remove oil from your face during the day? I wear makeup and my face gets oily around the nose and forehead about noontime. I heard that using a plain white paper towel for touch-ups during the day is just as good as the little tissue paper called "blotters". What do you use?
I need an elegant centerpiece with red apples being the main theme but with fall flowers. It needs to be simple yet elegant and not too high for tables. It is for the grand opening of nursing home. Maybe candles with fruit. I also need something for the mantle of a fireplace. I need to impress higher ups with elegance.
How do I stop my 8 week old puppy from peeing in her kennel? When we first got her, I introduced her to her kennel, just like all the books say, but she still doesn't care for it too much. We had a little breakthrough when she went in her kennel twice last week to go to sleep, but since then has stopped. She sleeps in the living room in her kennel, because it's when she sees us at night that she starts whining.
I had set my alarm for every three hours to take her out, but she would still have soaked her towels. I read to not put anything absorbent, so they would feel it more. I did that, and she doesn't seem to care! My husband put her in her kennel, right after taking her outside, so he could take a shower. Twenty minutes later she had already peed in her kennel and was soaked with it!
I think it must be anxiety caused, since she didn't need to go, and she is really good about holding it a long time when she is out of the kennel. She's so smart, she's already gotten the hang of housetraining, just not her kennel? I really want this to work because our other dog is kennel trained and very happy! Any help would be great!
How do I remove vaseline from a rug? It is short pile and a dark color. I have tried baby powder and baking soda but I can still feel grease and see dark color.
