RE: Poll: Are you concerned about Global Warming?
I'm not quoting anything that could be called a "think tank." And I will refrain from posting anymore on this thread as it is obvious to me that we have a very touchy person here who is not educated enough to know how to think for himself. ""It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it." ~Aristotle~ PMZ
RE: Poll: Are you concerned about Global Warming?
Whether or not global warming is due to chemical dependence (gas emmissions, factory pollution, chemical spillage, etc.) is just one aspect of the pollution problem. Greed and comfort is the real issue. How do explain CEO's making millions of dollars and thousands of people losing their jobs? The American Indians taught their children to LOVE and respect the land. We in turn shot and annihilated them (Heathens, remember)? What if someone came here and decided to do the same thing to us? Wouldn't we defend ourselves. AND what if they were STRONGER and had bigger weapons, and they thought we were STUPID.That goes hand-in-hand with respecting Ourselves. Everything about the majority of the American public denies this. Girls using chemicals to offset getting pregnant, drug companies selling drugs that while relieving pain in the shorttime. Creating new pains due to the power of the chemicals. yes, I know many depend on drugs to stay alive, many are addicted. You cannot add something to an environment without altering that environment in some way. Be it the physical body or our earthly body. We must become responsible for our excesses. Did you know that uraniums 1/2 life takes over 5000 years to dissipate. And that's only an ounce? How can you say this does not affect us? Yes, I admit I like my ice mochas and air conditioning, but I am scared. You cannot keep taking away from someone or something without eventually exhausting that supply. I endorse NO POLITICAL PARTY!!!! And obviously I'm not a CEO. Something's going on and I hope my beautiful child will benefit from it. Are we killing ourselves? I think so.

Everyone agrees the temperature goes up and down. No one is going to argue that they go up and down, that point does nothing to ease concerns about global warming or climate changes (which is a better name for it). We have had ice ages, we will again, there are a lot of things we CAN'T control. What this is about is doing right by what we CAN control that contributes to climate change. We can't control the weather, we can control our impact on it.
YOU are the one leaving it to your children. They shouldn't care about it and they shouldn't have to until they are adults.
"How PC to talk global warming as opposed to learning the truth for oneself."
PC? This should not be a political issue at all. People can agree or disagree, but I am not concerned about climate change or the environment for any political reason. I won't make a dime from it other than I may save some cash when they release decent cars. It's personal responsibility. Doing the the right thing for your children. NOT passing it off on to them.
RE: Poll: Are you concerned about Global Warming?
This is Vicka again. Sorry, my first sentence did not make much sense as war IS a MAN-MADE activity. I edited out a paragraph and lost my train of thought. I still think hot air causes more warming as it seems to generate power, profit and political exposure for certain verbose individuals. How PC to talk global warming as opposed to learning the truth for oneself.
RE: Poll: Are you concerned about Global Warming?
Global temperatures have always fluctuated and will continue to do so. Forces much stronger than man shape the climate. Think volcanoes, earthquakes and war for starters. Read the history. Forests exist where deserts once where and dry land where there was water. Change has always been and always will be. It is ironic we will lap up words by people seeking power and prestige and not learn for ourselves the real history of an issue. For instance, in the 1940's temperatures were down and there was concern that we were entering another ice age. ..."those who do not know their history are doomed to repeat it..." That is a somewhat mangled version of an excellent quote, but you get the idea.
Did you know the caribou actually seek out the much maligned Alaskan oil pipeline. Because the slight warmth in the VERY immediate area provides greater chance for survival of their young. You will never hear about that in those dreadful global warming commercials. You will also not see the actual pipeline in any of those shots. The breath-taking scenic beauty in those pictures is actually in another location altogether.
Our children have enough to worry about growing up. They should not be pressured to worry about being responsible for saving the planet. Of course we need to practice and teach good stewardship of our personal property, community and larger entities, thereby affecting positively the world we live in, but this campaign to save the planet is just that, an ad campaign driven by people seeking money, influence and power.
Really, the only global warming I worry about is from political hot air.

"Remember back in 1979, Stan-the-Man, when the "REAL" scientists were telling you to worry and fret about Global COOLING?!"
You are quoting a think tank talking point above... word for word. You are not thinking for yourself. Cooling is a major component of global warming. When the water warms and currents are altered there will be massive cooling in many parts of the world. Beyond that, there was no consensus in 1979, that was a press release, there is consensus now.
We may never have the big earthquake we fear, that doesn't mean I shouldn't try to get earthquake insurance and have my house tied to its foundation. It's all a part of personal responsibility.
My house may never catch fire... I'll still spend a little money on a smoke detector.
Taking care of the planet is the most important thing you can do for your children. Because anything else you do is meaningless if their environment cannot sustain a high quality of life.
RE: Poll: Are you concerned about Global Warming?
Pauly -- you are right in saying the earth goes in cycles and this is true. The fact is that global temperature changes are a fact - the earth is DYNAMIC, not static and things are going to change no matter what. Any kind of contribution MAY help, but to be more informed is always good. Knowledge is POWER!

Pauly. Those REAL scientist you are talking about are paid by OIL companies. You just threw up a bunch of think tank talking points and then told people to think for themselves. There is NO debate about whether global warming is happening at a faster rate than we have seen in previous cycles and there is almost no debate among scientists about whether we are contributing to it. So get your facts straight or are just doing the bidding of a corporations that stand to lose money if we actually start being smarter.
WE lose nothing by addressing global warming, yet have everything to gain. WE get cars with better gas mileage that spew less waste into the air. What a scary agenda. YOU sound like you have been brain washed into thinking global warming does not exist.
It's just like keeping your backyard clean or not dumping your motor oil into the ditch outside. Sure, neither has a huge impact. But it's the RIGHT thing to do. Keeping the planet clean and sustainable for your kids is the RIGHT thing to do. Nothing liberal about. It's right or wrong. It's about taking care of YOUR business and doing the RIGHT thing for you kids, if you have them.
Even if global warming ends up not being a problem, the air is cleaner, the cars are better. We don't burn oil, a non-renewable resource, at such an unsustainable rate. What a scary liberal agenda!
RE: Poll: Are you concerned about Global Warming?
No. Here's why. The Earth goes through many changes, and has been gone through the same changes many many times in the past. Liberal know-nothings who spout this stuff that has no basis in fact just because they have grown up hearing it need to get realistic. Instead of propogating fear, they should propogate truth. The truth is, these same pseudo-scientists are only looking at the general rise in temperature over the past few years rather than the AVERAGE FLUCTUATIONS that have occured and been DOCUMENTED over the past TWO OR THREE CENTURIES by REAL scientists. The temperatures have gone WAY up, then WAY down. It just takes a few years, sometimes even a score or more years in between shifts in global temperatures. There is no point in believing something just because it is a "well known fact" or "general public opinion". The public CAN be wrong, you know. Think for yourselves. PMZ

Yes, very much. I've seen pictures and read articles about polar bears starving and drowning because they have to swim such distances between ice. Also, some bears have turned to cannibalism for the first time in documented scientific history. This is frightening and sad and very disturbing.
