I have an old hat box. It appears to be made from cardboard. The top has been pushed down and is now detached for about half of the lid. I'd like to be able to restore it without losing any of the original feel/look of it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

My mom used to collect hat boxes. She would fix the lid by pushing the lid top back to where it used to be and making small "tabs" out of newspaper and glueing it inside of the lid to hold the top to the sides of the lid. Cut small rectangles out of newspaper (several pages thick) and fold them to make like and "L" shaped piece that can then be glued to hold the 2 sections together.
