Craft: Rudolph Mini Quilt

Craft: Rudolph Mini Quilt This is a hand sewn quilt with Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

Approximate Time 2 hours

Materials

  • Rudolph fabric
  • Needle and thread
  • Lace
  • Scissors
  • Fabric for back of quilt

Instructions

Cut the fabric the size you want and take the backing fabric to match up to the size of the Rudolph fabric. Pin the two pieces together and sew. I hand sewed mine but of course you can use a sewing machine if you have one. Then take the lace and sew around the outer edges to give it the finished touch. This picture I'm submitting is the Rudolph book material but instead of making the book, I just made a little quilt. It looks great on the back of your couch at Christmas time. I have the stuffed animals too so I just sit them around the quilt.

Dakota (CoJack)

Dakota is a 3 1/2 Jack Russell/Corgi Mix (CoJack) I got her from the Animal Shelter in Washington DC. She loves to play fetch, walks, car rides, chewing her rubber tire, Wendy's hamburgers, loves her belly rubbed along with her ears.

I would have to say that Dakota is the best dog i've ever had. She is funny, smart, playful, loyal, obedient and will lick you to death! I really do love this dog. And once she looks at you with those big dark brown eyes, you'll be hooked too and writing a bio like this about her on some website!

Today's Tips:

Carry a Laundry Basket in Your Car

I keep a spare plastic laundry basket in the trunk of my car. It's great for toting home breakables (eggs, fruit or other groceries) or yard sale finds. Once I get home, I sort through the items and then put the empty basket back in the hallway near the front door, ready to put back in the car for my next trip.

Add Beans To Ground Beef

When cooking with ground beef for spaghetti or chili, I often take some kidney beans or bean medley and crush them up and add to the sauce. With the vegetables and sauce, you can not taste the beans, but you get the added nutrients.

This is also a very inexpensive way to have a meal go further by adding less ground beef.

Frugal Bow Hunting Practice

For bow hunting practices before deer season, a person doesn't need to have fancy bullseye targets. My Daddy always used a plain, cheap paper plate that he'd place onto a bale of hay. Easily replaced and inexpensive.

How Many Days Till Christmas Chain

Your kids will soon (if nor already!) start with the "how many days until..." litany. Have them make a paper chain using construction paper or even leftover wrapping paper with 25 links on it. Each day from Dec 1 until Christmas, remove 1 link. Kids need the visual to get the IDEA! You could easily do this for Chanukah too, or Kwanzaa with appropriate colors and the right number of links!

Marking Clothes for Children

My Mom had the perfect solution to labeling those children's articles of clothing. #1 child got one dot of nail polish on the label. The nail polish does not wash out very easily. #2 child got two dots, and so on down the line. As one child outgrew something and it was time to hand it down to the next, all she had to do was add another dot to the label (and maybe refresh the previous dots). Sure made sorting the laundry a lot easier!! By the time the article reached child #6, (if it got that far!) it was time to toss it when she outgrew it!

Knee-Highs And Yard As Filling Material

For crochet projects that need filling: Give old knee-highs a new life. Use them as filling material.

Also, save every smidgen of yarn. A whole bunch of little yarn snippets inside the old knee-highs is good for extra filling material.

Use Inserts From Magazines For Greeting Cards

Here is a craft idea. The inserts that come in all magazines for subscriptions and other advertisements. I use those as bases for my greeting cards. Some of them are as heavy as cardstock paper. I just cover the card with whatever decoration I am using and then glue the card to another piece of card stock. This also gives my cards a 3d effect. I recycle, enhance my craft and it's cheap.

Funny Face Stuffed Animal

Crop a photo of someone until the head is about 3x2 inches. Use your computer to print it on iron on paper and iron on cotton sheet type material. Buy about a 10 inch stuffed animal (or use an old one), cut out the animal face and insert and stitch in the printed one. I gave one of these to my 5 sisters-in-law with their husbands' faces and I never heard such laughing in my life. Also, use strong thread because they can get tossed around some too.

Trouble with Refridgerator Ice Maker

My Frigidaire ice maker makes ice, it just doesn't drop the ice into the bin. The wire arm, when manually turned off waits about a minute, then manually re-setting the arm. It will break the ice free, move it to a staged position (on top of wiper) or drop 1 load of ice, refill and stay that way until the arm is reset again. Is this an adjustment problem or does the whole works need replacing?

Bread That Takes Ten Days to Make

I have been looking and asking around for quite a while now, I used to have a recipe for a kind of bread that takes 10 days to make. You get a large ziplock bag and put 3 ingredients in it, 1 cup of milk, 1 cup of sugar,i am not sure of the ingredients, and close up the baggie and squash the bag working the bag back and forth, up and down and every which way but loose, then lay it on your kitchen counter for about 3 days I think.

Each day working the bag again, after the 3 days you add something else to the bag and squish squash the bag again for another 2 or 3 days. It keeps going like that adding another ingredient or tow and squashing the bag, until all ten days or whatever is over you take out a cup for your next starter or give it to a friend for his or her new starter, or just bake it all up in a bread. Anyone out there that knows this recipe please speak up, none of my family remembers any of this and i was sure my sister in-law gave me this recipe, but oh well, maybe someone will recognize it.

Dontations Instead of Gift Giving

I need some help coming up with a idea for a gift exchange at the school where I work. This would be for staff only. I did try to find out if there were any national guard troops from our state in Iraq, but there isn't at the moment. Are there any other ideas out there for donating instead of gift giving? I had also thought of St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Thanks in advance for your help.

Have A Recall Free Christmas
By Debra Frick

With all the recalls on toys and with the toy companies now trying to scramble to fill the shelves of stores with lead free toys, maybe this is the time to re-think what you want Santa to bring your kids. Also with this being a year that is certainly going to be hard on all of us financially with the cost of gasoline going through the roof and people wondering how they are going to heat their homes, the thought of Christmas can be daunting.
