Tiger (Domestic Short Hair)

Tiger is 15 years old. He is a Domestic Short Hair Brown Tabby. I was given custody of Tiger because it was decided I could give him better care.

Tiger loves to lay on me after I cover up with my down comforter; he waits until I settle in then sinks into the comforter and stretches out. He also still likes to chase his tail! Sometimes Tiger likes to groom me; this picture is an example of what happens when his tongue gets stuck. Sometimes he walks around like this for a while until his tongue dries out. Then he remembers to pull it in.

Craft Project: Updating A Promotional Clock
By Debra Frick

A Dog Gone Good Time (Or how to redo a Doctor's Clock) We have all seen them a million times hanging in the doctor's office, some pharmaceutical company wanting to promote their latest drug gave our doctor a free clock. Now our wonderful doctor, not wanting to be rude, hangs it in the waiting room for a couple of months until some lawyer files a suit against that drug and the clock ends up in the thrift store. Lucky us because the thrift store will sell us that clock really cheap because it has advertising on it.

Foxy (Pom/Cocker Spaniel)

Foxy is 2 years old. She is a Pom with Cocker Spaniel. We got her 6 months ago, she was an outdoor dog so we bought her and now she is inside in a nice warm place.

She likes to play with tennis balls and her teddy bears. She is very loving and she also likes to cuddle.

Purple Clematis

This flower is a Clematis. We planted four last Spring so it will climb each corner of the arch that it is planted around. All four are different colors. I can't wait until they are all in bloom and meet at the top. This is our first bloom on this side. I wish to share it's beauty with everyone.

Poem: A Mother's Prayer

Give me patience when little hands tug at me
with ceaseless small demands.

Give me gentle words and smiling eyes, and keep
my lips from hasty replies.

Let me not in weariness, confusion or noise obscure
my vision from life's fleeting joys.

That when in years to come, my house with beautiful
memories, its rooms may fill.

Cleaning a Textured Bottomed Tub

I have a textured bottom tub. Cleaning it was no use. It was still dingy. Until I cleaned up some spilled shampoo and there was a gleaming white spot! I use Pert but any should do. Squirt some in the tub and wet a stiff brush and scrub lightly. It spreads and gets the crannies. Let it sit for a while. Rinse. It also leaves a pleasant smelling bathroom.

Preparing for Thunderstorm and Tornado Weather

Spring storm season is upon us and storms with straight line winds, hail and lightening can be extremely dangerous and damaging. Here are a few tips to make this time of year a little safer.

  1. Determine the safest place in your home to wait out a storm. Make sure all family members know where to go in the event of a weather emergency. If you do not have a basement or storm shelter choose a small room or closet in the center of the home.
  2. Stay away from windows
  3. Heavy furniture can provide additional shelter
  4. Designate a meeting spot outside your home where all family members meet in the event of a fire or weather disaster.
  5. If you seek shelter in your basement make sure the path is unobstructed. My basement is a catch all and often times there IS no place to go because of all the JUNK. Clean up an area and keep it clear.
  6. Keep drinking water on hand (a 3 gallon container per person is recommended.)
  7. Keep your flashlights in the same place so you can find them even in the dark when the electricity goes out.
  8. Create a "Disaster supply kit" which includes your water, flashlights, blankets, canned foods and a MANUAL can opener. If possible purchase a battery or crank radio.
  9. Keep your pets carrier or leash in the same spot so you can find it easily in a storm. My golden retreiver WON'T go into the basement and has to be forcibly carried (a hazard to my DH and her!)
  10. Check your batteries monthly and replace as necessary. Nothing is worse than having DEAD flashlights batteries.
  11. A WATCH means conditions are favorable for the development of severe weather.

A WARNING means severe weather has been reported or detected by RADAR. Seek shelter immediately and stay tuned to weather reports.

  12. If severe weather hits, Keep calm and follow instructions from the national weather service.
Do not call 911 to ask "What Happened" Remember that 911 is for (INJURED) people needing assistance in an actual emergency-tune into the radio instead to get up to date information.

Milk Shower For Hair and Skin

Milk shower for silky and strong hair and soft skin. Take 4 cups of milk to rinse. DO NOT USE WATER FIRST. Use regular shampoo and rinse with MILK to get shampoo out.

Take 2 cups of milk, mix with brown sugar for a scrub and clean body. Rinse with milk. Warm milk as needed and let it cool before using.

Tips: Leave in milk for 5 minutes in hair and massage hair good for the milk vitamins to help hair. Goat milk is great too.

Source: Grandma "Mariaelena" As a child, she used this method to shower her hair but with NO SHAMPOO and her hair. As I did it over the years, my hair is STRONG, VERY LONG and shines with no chemicals or effects and natural product.

Make Maracas For Cinco de Mayo

Having a Cinco de Mayo party? If people are bring kids, be sure to have something to do. Plan a craft like making maracas from empty water bottles. Add a few dried beans or some rice to empty, dry bottle, cap them and cover with a thin layer of paper mache' which will dry quickly in the sun, or even a layer of duct or masking tape. (Kids love tape!) Then decorate as desired with sharpie markers, stickers, beads, feathers, fringes, ribbons, or whatever. Let kids perform to a Mexican tune in a maraca band later in the evening.

Count Protein To Help Control Diabetes

Did You Know? Very often, diabetics are told to not worry about counting the grams of protein they eat, with the exception of making them as low-fat as possible. But protein grams do count!

Protein does affect the blood sugars, but not as quickly as complex or simple carbohydrates. Most medical personnel believe that because protein takes so-long to break down into blood-sugar, it is inconsequential. First-hand experience has taught me (a 24 year, juvenile-onset, insulin-dependent diabetic) that in the typical Western diet, with a much higher protein content, high-protein meals will not only raise your blood-sugars (and blood-pressure, too), but will keep them elevated over time, and makes the diabetic more insulin-resistant! This is why people with hypoglycemia (low blood-sugars), are recommended to eat protein, to help stabilize their blood-sugars!

If you have hard-to-control diabetes or blood-sugars, keep a close eye on the amount and types of proteins you eat. Red meats have the longest digestion times, followed by pork, poultry, fish, seafood and
vegetable (beans, lentils, legumes, nuts, and seeds.) In contrast, the easier it is for the body to digest, taking into account the amount and type of protein, the better the long-term control of your blood-sugars.

For example, you will see the end results of eating that bowl-of-beans much sooner than that steak, but your blood sugars will also come down sooner, more like the normal physiologic action of the body. That steak will raise it slower, but keep it elevated over a much longer, period of time. Just be informed.

Dear Webby's Joke of the Day

An enormously wealthy 65-year-old man falls in love with a young woman in her twenties and is contemplating a proposal.

"Do you think she'd marry me if I tell her I'm 45?" he asked a friend.

"Your chances are better," said the friend, "if you tell her you're 90."
