GK (Mixed Breed)

GK is a 6 year old Heinz 57 varieties (Mixed Breed) dog, that I got from a shelter 3 years ago. GK likes to run amok with our terrier mix. In this picture, GK has discovered a 26-oz. peanut butter jar I was saving to clean out. After I took the photo, I realized you could see his tongue all the way to the bottom of the jar on the right side.

Aspirin Scrub For Softer Skin

I have recently found a fantastic new recipe for radiant, soft skin. It might sound really strange, but the trick is Aspirin and water. It's a great combo and works really well. Give it a try.

Danielle

Editor's Note: Some people are allergic to aspirin and people on blood thinners or other medication can also have reactions to this. Please consult your doctor if you think this might be the case with you.

Stretching Liquid Hand Soap

Make liquid hand and dish soap last longer. Once the soap in one of those foam dispensers is gone, refill it 1/4 of the way with regular liquid soap and the rest of the way with water (add the soap last to prevent foaming out over the bottle). Then shake it and you now have a full bottle of soap. it makes those big refill bottles of hand or dish soap last for a year or more, depending on usage. And you save money (and the environment) by not having to buy bottles of soap all the time.

Shop a Day Later Each Week to Save

Do your grocery shopping a day later each week, Monday one week, Tuesday the next etc. You save a weeks grocery bill every seven weeks. Eat before you shop. If you are hungry, you will be tempted to buy items you don't need.

Split Easter Basket Purchases Between Families

When creating your Easter Baskets, get together with friends/neighbors or relatives who have children in the same age range and share multi packages of toys or candies. Then your baskets will have more variety and save you a lot of money.

Candy is expensive and who wants to put an entire bag of candy in a basket with little else? This is especially helpful for families that only have one or two children. It's fun to see what others buy to contribute and the baskets end up being very interesting and colorful.

Flea Market Easter Egg Hunt

Go on an Easter egg hunt at the flea market. I did this one year for my Easter display. I looked at every booth for any kind of Easter egg (ceramic, glass, porcelain, etc.). I had a ball! It was really amazing how many I found. No two were alike. They were all very inexpensive. When I was done, I put some Easter grass in a large basket and nestled them in it. It made a great Easter display with my big ceramic bunny. I think kids would love doing this too. Happy hunting!

Making a Paper Easter Basket

To make an Easter basket, you can use either construction paper or an old shoe box with a lid. If you use construction paper, you will need scissors, stapler, pencil, ruler and markers or crayons or whatever else you want to use for embellishment. Before anything, cut a thin strip of the paper. This will be your handle. Measure out a square with a ruler in the middle of the paper and draw a square on it with a pencil.

Then, in the middle of each side, cut slits all the way to the square. Bring one side up and put two of the slit sides (one on each side) together and staple in the middle. If the sides overlap too much, cut a little until you have even flaps that fit together right. Do the same with each side. Then staple your handle piece on each side. Make sure when you staple that the open sides of the staples are on the inside. You can also put clear tape over the open sides of the staples to prevent scratching. If you are using a shoebox, you will need one shoebox with a lid, scissors, stapler, and whatever you want to use to decorate. Cut out a strip of the lid. Then, staple the strip on each side.

You can decorate the outside of the shoebox with cheap border or contact paper and/or tie ribbon on each side of the handle or put tied ribbons around the perimeter (you may need hot glue for this). Just make sure that you put also put it on the strip that you use for the handle. Put in it candy, books, toys, stuffed animals, etc. When using the stapler, be careful with your fingers. I've stapled mine a few times.

Reuse Food Containers for Packed Lunches

Reuse pickle, mayo or yogurt containers; anything really that has a cover. Wash it out and use it to send (or bring) tuna, chicken salad to work or school. I send my husband to work with left-overs or whatever. If he don't bring it back home, it's no great loss.

Perfect Quick Bread Loaf

I have come up with an easy method to making the perfect quick bread loaf (banana bread, zucchini bread, etc). Before pouring your batter into the loaf pan, whether its glass or dark coated, line the inside of the pan with aluminum foil. Spray the inside then with non stick cooking spray. Just use a big enough piece of foil to completely line the inside and also make sure it hangs over the longest sides of the pan about 1/2 to 1 inch. Just crunch the foil on the sides a little so when its cooled you have a good grip (handles). Once you line the pans, pour in your batter, and bake.

When the loaf has cooled off enough, just grab the sides of the over hanging foil, and lift and the whole loaf will come out of the pan. Since you use non stick cooking spray then the foil easily comes away from the loaf. I loved my idea so much because if you want a nice warm slice of bread, the slice comes out perfectly without crumbling.

Bake a Few Potatoes Ahead

Whether you purchase potatoes in bulk and they're coming close to their expiration date or you simply like short cuts for daily meal preparation, try this: Bake up a few taters ahead. After baking you can peel them (or not) and then cube, slice, quarter, mash or simply place them whole in to individual baggies. Store what you think you'll want for the coming week in the fridge and the rest in the freezer.

Source: I live alone and don't want to waste nor do I want to spend a lot of time in the kitchen every single day! This has definitely worked for me. :-)
