I have been running for the past four months or so and feel much better and healthier. I find that I can eat pretty much anything I want now and I don't gain any weight.
It does help to have some sort of goal with you are running. Right now my goal is to run in a 5 mile race in March and maybe another one this summer. That gives me something to look forward to and train for.
It doesn't matter when you run either. I would just try not to run at night right before bed as your body will still be in exercise mode and you won't be able to fall asleep easily.

Running is a good aerobic exercise that will increase your level of fitness, strengthen muscles, improve your heart/lungs, and so on.
If you're asking if running in the early morning, vs. another time of day is beneficial...there are pros and cons. I would guess the pros outweigh the cons!
As with any excercise, if you're presently out of shape, ask your doctor before you begin to run. But it is one of the least expensive and most "portable" forms of excercise.
