When traveling, on vacation etc, Don't buy from the gift shop. Check out department stores, dollar stores, Walgreens etc. One can find a large variety of small gift items with the name of the location at very good prices. Just takes a little looking.

We did this very thing on our last vacation in Disney World. Merchandise in the parks is high priced and altho we did still buy some items, we found some nice Disney branded items in a local Wal-Mart!

I disagree. I always try to buy from small retail stores where they work very hard to eke out a meagre living. Large department stores have a monopoly on the market, and are forcing the small operators out of business.

Found this to be true in Vermont... buying maple syrup to bring home to family and friends... a waitress tipped us off that the same products were sold for a few dollars less in the local grocery store- same sizes, packaging, Company and flavors!

Our family went to Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida for vacation one year - all on the ocean. Coming home, we realized that we had forgotten a couple of souvenir gifts, but by that time we were in Arkansas. Believe it or not, we went to a second-hand store in Harrison where I found six brand new candles with an ocean theme and sand and shells packed into the lid of the candle. There was also a big conch shell that we were able to buy also. No one knew any different! Plus we saved a ton of money!

Good advice! Even at a local wal mart you can find postcards, sweat shirts, tee shirts, and other basic souvenirs.

This is very good advice. Recently on a trip to Hawaii I discovered that the same brand of macadamia chocolates was about 30% cheaper at Rite-Aid than at the gift shop!
