I have a drop ceiling in my bath with metal rails that have rusted badly. How can I remove the rust without damaging the ceiling tiles. Can I paint over the rusted rails with a rust prohibiting paint without special preparation?

I painted our drop ceiling track over 1 year ago and it still looks great! I used rustoleum paint and just used a dry rag to wipe away loose particles. Good luck!!!!!

I'd think about removing the drop ceiling. Its better to remove the cause than to fix the problem, if possible. sometimes one finds a good surprise underneath once drop ceilings are removed. If you decide to paint the rails, I'd ask at a home improvement store like Lowes or a local paint store to the info you need to do it. Best of luck,
