Sealing Antique Cabinet

I have an old Sellers cabinet that has chippy paint. I like the look and would like to seal it to prevent more chipping. I have tried polyurethane, but it does not hold. Are there any other suggestions?

Applying modern finishes and sealants to any antique will greatly reduce the market value of the antique.
Perhaps its too late to worry about that since you have already used polyurethane...too bad, sorry.
