Have you tried bleaching the white shirts? It should work. Let the shirts soak in the bleach solution for an hour or so. Repeat if necessary.

I tend to put alcohol since at times bleach may give an allergic reaction to household members.

Bleach is the thing to use in this situation. If someone is sensitive to bleach, as I am, you could wash them a second time to remove the bleach odor and air dry them outside in the sun.
