ayegali, what a fantastic idea! A shrug would be perfect for an elderly lady with arthritic hands; like a shawl with sleeves...perfect! I will go to Lionbrand and have a look at their patterns. I like to see photos of what I'm making beforehand so my elderly friend can understand and see for herself.
Thank you so much.
Cettina, try the Lion Brand Yarns website for crocheted shrugs. I tried answering with specific instructions earlier, but my session timed out, so it may not show up. Blessings!
Cettina, my answer may not suit if you really want a cardigan style, but crocheted shrugs are warm and snuggle-y. Crochet a rectangle, approx. 60" x 36", depending on how long you want the 'sleeves' to be. Shorten the 60" length for shorter sleeves.
This next step creates side seams and sleeve seams together, essentially forming armholes and sleeves. Fold crocheted rectangle in half lengthwise, then sew/crochet side ends together from bottom up as far as necessary to get the correct size wrist opening you want. Slip arms through. One bottom open edge will be around the neck and shoulders, cowl neck fashion. The other bottom edge will be the back bottom of the shrug. I can't show a picture so I hope my instructions are clear enough.
Check out the Lion Brand Yarns website and search for instructions on making crocheted shrugs. Blessings!
Thank you for the suggestions, angeltea9. allfreecrochet will probably be my best bet since its crochet I'm looking for.
Thank you viktorija for the link. Unfortunately, after going through most of them, I realised they were knitting patterns. I can crochet but my knitting is awful so I wont even try, but thanks anyway I appreciate your help.
Try FaveCrafts.com or AllfreeCrochet.com. They have AllFreeKnitting.com too. Good Luck! : D
Here is a link to LOTS of free cardigan patterns. Granted, many will not be what you're looking for, but there are a couple hundred on this one page, so there should be at least one that will work for you & your friend.
