We are having a freshmen sophmore dance and we have pretty much decided on an Arabian Nights theme but we don't really know what to decorate the gym with. Also the gym is really large and we kind of want to make the gym smaller we just dont know how to do that. I need some advice as soon as possible PLEASE! - Renee

1.) mini-palace.Just take cardboard boxes (You can get some from a local shop)and turn them into segments of a palace(REMEMBER! they must fit trough the doors and THEN assembled)
2.)ceiling drapings
3.)walls on the b-ball out of bounds lines, with windows just remember to put repetitive (same image every other window)scenery on them
4.)throne room themed photo booth inside the palace
5.)when your done give all the cardboard to one of those places that gives money in return for recyclables, I mean you cant get cheaper than being paid money can you?

I have the same problem. Our gym is HUGE and our Smei-formal is coming up. It's one of the only dances we have and the dance commitee wants to make it ultra specail. We have a colour sceme of: Purple, Blue, green, and yellow(gold) I believe. We plan on having Fabric drape from the balcony to the middle of the gym, well the DJ is on the Stage. The thing we're having problems with is...What to put in the front of the school, Like when all the guests come in. I thought about a black layout of Camels, palm trees and Pyramids with red, orange, and yellow lights shining on it like a sunset. I'm not sure this quite fits the theme...But I think it would look cool.

Please help. And thank-you.

go to any fabric store and get cheap, thin gauzy material, almost see-through (think i dream of jeanie pants) and hang those around the gym. Also, use lots of pinks, oranges and gold. Dollar stores might have cheap gold things to put out. If you could find really cheap pillows you could do a lounge area that is good for pictures. As a former belly dancer, I think staying in the scheme typically found in arabian dances/parties is key. Just drape long sheets of material all around for an inexpensive look. Hope all goes well!

Have you considered renting some partitions from your local RENT-A-CENTER. Does the school have chalkboards on wheels that you could cover with a purple or white paper roll and drape with TULLE fabric? TULLE is very inexpensive material and comes in loads of colors, is lightweight and easy to work with. Drape the tulle between a few of the chalkboards/partitions to make the gym appear smaller and confine the area you wish to decorate.
Good luck!!
