Craft Project: Decorative Glass Plate Just in time for Mother's day. This fun craft is surprisingly easy to create. You can choose a pretty fabric, glue to a clear glass plate and you've got yourself a pretty "porcelain" plate to give as a gift or keep for yourself.

Staples Ink Cartridge Rewards Program I wanted to share with the ThriftyFun community about the Staples Rewards Program. For every ink cartridge you return to the Staples store (limit 10 Per month) as a Rewards member, you are given a $3.00 PER cartridge credit. I does not matter what brand. You will be sent a Rewards coupon once every quarter. I received one recently for $24.00 and used it to purchase more ink for my printer. I am in the process of copying treasured old photographs of my parents and my inlaws for my children, so I am using plenty of ink. It is free to join this program. I highly recommend doing this. It has certainly been beneficial to me thus far. Source: I was offered the membership in Staples while purchasing printer ink about a year ago. Rate It: No Cost Quality of Life Improvements There isn't a person among us who doesn't have days of feeling "down" on life - especially if you pay too much attention to news on the economy lately. I have found a surefire way to cure those blues. Whenever I'm having "one of those days", I simply say to myself - What can I do today to improve the quality of my life? It doesn't take long for me to come up with and idea to act upon. I may choose to make a small household repair, craft a gift for an upcoming birthday, clean out my book collection and list the toss-outs on half.com or amazon for free, organize a closet or drawer, clean one thing I've been putting off for some time. Whatever it is that I decide to do definitely adds to the quality of my life and that of my family. So, whenever you find yourself not feeling so great about your life, try to think of something positive - no matter how small - that you can do today that will change your life for the better. It doesn't have to cost you a dime. By Thriftsavvy from West Dundee, IL Post Feedback: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf53100752.tip.html

Rate It: Since each individual college visit costs so much time and money, visiting a big college fair is a great way to get a little face-to-face information. Today my family went to a fair with 170+ colleges represented, though, and with two students there was no way to talk with representatives from all we wanted. I realized, though, that my kids were spending a lot of their time filling out send-me-more-info forms, which reduced the time they had for asking questions and getting a feel for each school. Since we were already there, I told them to flip each card over. If it was a business-reply postcard, they should take it to fill out at home and mail later. That helped tremendously, but it wasn't the best option if we'd planned ahead. Even better would have been if I'd thought ahead to print out their information on sticky address labels, and let each kid bring a few sheets of them. The label could have gone on the card and been turned in immediately, with no time lost. Here's what I'd have put on the labels: Name, e-mail address, mailing address, telephone (if they want that used), high school name and address, graduation year, what major(s) they're most interested in pursuing, and what sport or important activity is really essential to them (if any). That's pretty much what was on every card. Printing the sticky label sheets would cost a bit of money, but if it reduced the number of college visits by even one school, it would save quite a bit. Maximizing the kids' time at the college fair, so they spend more time learning about different schools' settings and offerings - instead of rewriting their names and addresses - would definitely help do that. Rate It: I got a fantastic deal at Wal-Mart yesterday and wanted to share. They had tee shirts and shorts on sale, and since I needed all new for this summer I got some. The shorts I got were $6 each. Some were knit stretchy material, some were nice cotton ones that I'll be hanging up and saving for those days when I'm going somewhere and want to look nicer. The tee shirts I got were $5-6. They also had tank tops for $4. The "green" tee shirts were $6 and really nice. I got 10 pair of shorts, 8 tee shirts, and $50 in groceries for under $150! What a buy! Rate It: Inversion Table for Back Problems For those of you who have a bad back, think about buying an Inversion Table. Walmart.com sells several models for under $130. They come unassembled, but are easy to put together. The most important thing when using them is to go easy! At first set the table for only a slight tilt and don't stay upside down very long. Also bring the table forward (to stand up) very slowly. With some back problems an inversion table can really make a big difference, and sometimes stop pain altogether. Rate It: Removing Hard Water Deposits from Faucets For hard water spots vinegar is often recommended because it works. I've taken this a step further. I mix 2 Tbsp. of cornstarch to about a 1/4 cup of water. I then add about 1/2 cup of vinegar and bring just to a boil. While still hot, I pour this mixture into a wide mouthed mason jar. This will thicken and will stay put on faucets much longer than just vinegar water, which runs right off. Saddlebag from Vermilion Bay, ON Post Feedback: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf523898.tip.html

Rate It: Prepare Dishes in Advance for a Communion Party Communion is around the corner. My tips is to Moms who want to enjoy the day, yet can not afford or do not want to cater the food for a backyard party. Make dishes such as: Chicken Parmagiana, Chicken Cacciatore, Baked Ziti, Sausage Pep and Onion, ahead of time in the chafing pan inserts. Give the dish to a friend that will not be at the church and ask them to bake the item before the party starts and to bring to the party when they arrive. The dish comes to your house hot and ready to serve! By Tkelly336 from Hamilton, NJ Post Feedback: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf97328953.tip.html

Rate It: I have just planted Nellie R Stevens Holly Trees. I love them but I can't find what I am looking for searching the web. I know that spring time is a time they shed their leaves. I am not sure about how and when to prune them. Also mine are looking very thin and I don't know what to do. I did call the landscaper that put them in to look at them. I told him I wanted low maintenance trees and something to fill in to block some views. They are suppose to endure very dry times, etc. But what concerns me is how many leaves they are shedding. Please help. Thank you so very much. Hardiness Zone: 8a By Cosy from Columbia, SC Post Feedback: http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf13791174.tip.html
