Homemade Pretzels

Makes 10-12. Simple and inexpensive to make.

Ingredients:

  • 2 tsp. yeast
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/4 cup warm water
  • 4 cup flour
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
Coating
  • 1 Tbsp. water
  • 2 Tbsp. beaten egg
  • 1 tsp. or more Kosher salt

Directions:

Mix together yeast, sugar and salt. Stir in the warm water to the mixture. Add only 2 cups of flour to the liquid mixture, stirring to combine. Gradually add in the remaining 2 cups. Knead dough for 3-5 minutes on a floured surface.

Place dough in greased plastic bag and seal the top. Let sit for at least one hour to rise. Can even put in fridge after it rises and use the next day. Gather ingredients and pre heat oven to 425 degrees F.

Turn dough onto floured surface and cut into 10-12 pieces. Roll dough between hands or on counter top into ropes about 12-15 inches long. Make a U shape with dough, then cross the tops of U, and twist the top, then bring the two ends of top down to bottom of U to form pretzel shape.

Place on cookie sheets with parchment. Combine egg and water and using a pastry brush, apply the egg to the pretzels. Sprinkle with kosher salt. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Enjoy!

Is this for soft or hard pretzels? Also, do you have to let it rise in a bag or will a bowl do? Pretzels are one of our favorite snacks and you don't find many recipes for them. Yours looks great!
