Freezing an Apple Pie

Should apple pies be cooked before freezing them?

I've made several apple pies, frozen all of them before baking and they were fine when I did decide to bake them. I figured if I can buy a store bought apple pie & it is frozen (raw) then why couldn't I do it myself.
