Getti in the Flowers (Great Dane)

Getti is a 7.5 year old Great Dane. I've had him since he was a pup. He flew in from WA state to TX! What a good boy! He loves to snuggle with ME! He is the best friend and security system I could ever have!

Labeling Your Quilts

I like to sew a lot. I wanted to make my friend's first baby a special quilt. I made the flock of geese pattern. The quilt was unique and I had a lot of fun with it. But what is more special is when you all decide to make a quilt for someone don't forget to make a label saying "This quilt was made with love for:___". Then add a second line with the name of the quilt and the date. This is the tip. I realize that a lot of quilts I've seen didn't have a label. Check this quilt out my friends.

Empty Pop Bottle "Fish"

I got this idea out of a magazine. All you do is cut the bottoms off of the soda pop bottle (I used the 20 oz. size)

Shape it like a fish's tail. Thread a needle with thread or fishing line (don't forget to tie a knot so it won't go through). Run it up through the top of your fish so you can hang it up. Staple the tail shut. I put streamers at the end of each tail. Paint it and hot glue on fins (I used 2 pieces of the bottom of the pop bottle for each fin)

Removing Build Up from Tea Kettle

To remove the buildup from the inside of a tea kettle, a friend told me this method.

Fill the tea kettle with lemon juice (bottle from juice section in grocery store ok). Put in enough juice to cover the buildup.

Leave it alone for some six hours, twirling the pot occasionally to swirl the juice.

Empty and wash clean.

Cleaning Trash Cans

To make cleaning your trash cans easier put them (emptied of bags) out on the porch when it is misting or raining, being sure to flip them over at some point. Then when you have time sponge them down with a soapy rag, quick rinse and good as new. All the gunk will be presoaked and comes right off.

Pinecone Fire Starters as Christmas Gifts

This is a very inexpensive if not free quaint and useful Christmas gift. You see them in the gift stores for ridiculous prices, why not clean your yard and make lovely presents at the same time.

Gather up pinecones, all except the white pinecones that have pitch on them. Save the ends of used candles and remelt the wax in a foil pan (use as a double boiler). Dip the pinecone in the melted wax to coat it.

You may add fragrance oils, dried crushed herbs, and food color to create a sensory delight. Place the pinecones on a sheet of wax paper to dry within seconds.

Place an assortment of cones in a wicker basket or gift bag. Add bunches of dried tied bouquets of mint, cinnamon sticks, or lavender to give that extra few minutes of fragrance to the fire. People will love it and say how creative and talented you are...not that you are a cheap penny pitcher that makes rubbish look good.

Thrifty Substitute for Holiday Meal

For a small family unit of a couple of people, a turkey for a holiday meal may be more food than can be utilized even with freezing the leftovers. A thrifty substitute can be a fryer-sized chicken. Stuffing can be used if you wish and roasting is the same as for turkey except the time is much shorter. The bones can be simmered for soup stock.

Manatee County Recycling Group

There is an online Recycling group here in the Manatee County area of Florida (i.e. East & West Bradenton, Palmetto, Ellenton, Parrish, Myakka, Anna Maria, Holmes Beach and Parts of the Sarasota & Longboat areas)

If you've got more "stuff" than you know what to do with this is the place! If you want "stuff" and like the idea of not having to buy it this is the place! If your "stuff" is yearning to be FREE this is definitely the place!

Our mission is to keep "stuff" from our bulging landfills by making the free exchange of items from hands that no longer want it to hands that do. We promote the reduction of clutter in the lives of our members, and making new friends in the process.

Rich or poor makes no difference at all, for all are welcome here. It's just neighbors helping neighbors, one gift at a time.

Not Going Into Debt for a Nice Christmas

We have never made much money, so when shopping for the holidays, I check out thrift stores! I used to think that was a terrible thing to do, but you can find so many brand new things with the tags still on them. You can also find lots of gently used items that are still gift-worthy as well. Christmas isn't about spending a lot of money anyway and I think sometimes we are foolish in the amount we spend. No one should have to go in debt for to have a nice Christmas.

How to Cook the Perfect Turkey Breast?

Do you have any tips for cooking the perfect (and NOT dry) turkey breast? My son complains every year that my turkey is always so dry. Because it is just the three of us, I usually only cook a small turkey breast. HELP me cook that perfect Thanksgiving turkey this year! :) Thanks in advance!

Shower Doors are White Instead of Clear

I have tried everything from clr, jif, sugar soap, magic eraser, metho and water, shower power, and a foam type soap scum remover and still the shower is white instead of clear. The shower is a clear glass shower door, and smooth, not the rough type. I do cleaning for a living and this shower has me stumped. The owner uses solvol which doesn't make thing any easier and they don't wipe the shower down what. What do you suggest that I use to get this off?

Thanks,
Jenny from Townsville Australia

Crayon on a Chair

How can I clean wax crayon off a valuable chair? The seat of the chair, where the crayon is, is covered in fabric - kind of shiny with stripes of different shades of green.

Crown Royal Bag Quilt

I am not a crafty person, but I'm interested in making a quilt or throw out of Crown Royal liquor bags. I've never made a quilt before and don't know where to start. I don't own a sewing machine. Do I need one?

Or does anyone know where I can purchase a new or used quilt or throw made of Crown Royal bags?
