I keep a cheap pair of swimming goggles in the kitchen and wear them when chopping onions. No more tears!

Well I am here to say, after reading a post today where someone wanted to know what worked, is that the goggles worked great for me. Not one tear and usually I can soak up a couple of tissues.

Well, somebody has it wrong here! Which is it, nose or mouth?

Actually, it's breathe through your nose and not your mouth. And goggles won't help. Tears are caused by inhaling raw onion particles in the air throught the mouth and not by getting onion juice in your eye. So if you keep your mouth shut while cutting onions you won't have any tears to worry about.
