Buddy (Shih-Tzu/Poodle)

Buddy is a 2 year old Shih-Tzu/Poodle. We adopted Buddy from a rescue organization in Algonquin, IL, who had saved his entire litter from a puppy mill. We adopted him when he was ten weeks old, and he weighed less than three pounds.

He loves to chase tennis balls and play tug with anything; stuffed animals, rope toys, and socks are his favorites. He is a bit spoiled, he always wants to be in the middle of whatever we are doing and is always up for belly rubs!

Snuggling is also a favorite pastime for our two-year-old, twelve pound furbaby.

Wildlife: Elk in Elk Country, PA

We planned a trip to Elk County, PA this year. It was awesome to see the clusters of the doe with usually one bull elk. They seem to have no fear of us. They were casually grazing, then lying down, and occasionally there was a high-pitch call from a bull to be heard. The bull in the photo was standing about 60 feet from us!

Bubba the Cat

Bubba Flowerface is a six year old cat. He was born in our closet. His mother was a rescue kitty that showed up one day at our feral colony. He loves to pose for photos and show off his handsomeness. In this picture, he shows off his heart.

Bubba's mother was an Abyssinian or Abyssinian mix, and his sister shows it. We think his father was one of the black and white ferals named Tux. Bubba has a white stripe on his back leg exactly where Tux does. It really could be any other cat, though.

His mother showed up in the feral colony we take care of. She was friendly and pregnant, so we brought her in and set up a box in the bottom of the closet for her to have her babies in. She had four: Bubba, tiny Dora the Explorer, Casper and Pollux (twins). The twins were born in the same sack, something I had never seen before, and I have worked with dogs and cats for 30 years.

Bubba loves stick toys, whether they have string, feathers or material strips. He also likes to cuddle and bathe the rescues. Bubba got his name for being Dora's brother, and the Flowerface because as a kitten he was one of those pansy face kittens with a round face and big eyes.

Dizzy Lizzy (Iguana)

Dizzy Lizzy is about three years old. She is an almost 4 foot Green Iguana. I purchased Dizzy Lizzy from on the internet from an locally placed ad. She loves to climb. Dizzy Lizzy as all iguanas like to be up high. When we hold her, she climbs to the top of our heads and just sits there. She also likes to walk around the house and explore.

Dizzy Lizzy is not just a pet, she is actually a very loved member of our family. We feed Dizzy a very healthy diet and bathe her each and every day, just like one of the kids. ;-)

Halloween: Box O' Popcorn Costume

I took a box, painted it white. Then I painted red stripes, leaving a spot to make the circle (I used a pan lid to make the circle). I cut holes out for his head and arms (cut the flaps off the open end of the box where the legs come out). I painted in the words POPCORN, popped some popcorn and hot glued it to the top of the box (while I watched TV) and to a cheap baseball cap. Waaalaaa! He won MANY costume contests with it.

Today's Tips:

Cleaning Stainless Steel Appliances

Just when your kitchen's stainless steel appliances seem doomed to be forever smudged and streaked, here comes Mr Stainless Shine to the rescue. My personal 5 step clean and shine method will make even the worst stainless look new again.

Step 1: Aquire a "Mr Clean, Magic Eraser " cleaning pad. Pour rubbing alcohol onto pad. GENTLY rub cleaning pad with the grain of the surface until all of the drip marks and finger prints are gone. Let air dry. Dispose of cleaning pad properly.

Step 2: With a micro-fiber cloth, wipe entire surface with clean hot water to remove all residues. Dry with a second dry micro-fiber cloth.

Step 3: Using a third micro-fiber cloth, pour baby oil onto the cloth and rub with the grain. Cover entire surface. When done, you may find that the oil is heavy in some spots and thin in other spots. Just try pushing a little harder while buffing with the grain till the surface looks evenly distributed.

Step 4: Using yet another micro-fiber cloth, fresh and clean and free of anything, buff the surface until it shines like BRAND NEW.

Step 5: Once done, for maintained, you may have to wipe surface with a clean micro-fiber cloth to occasionally redistribute oil and high gloss shine.

Disclaimer: As with all new cleaning techniques, please try this method in an inconspicuous spot that will not be seen if it does not work as described.

Thanks and good luck with that pesky stainless steel that's no longer pesky.

Use Grocery Sacks for Wrapping Packages

Simply cut out the bottom and slit down the side of a grocery sack. Use to wrap packages you mail. Why waste money on buying packaging paper when this works just as well!

Borax for Fleas

Fleas--Now is the time to rid your house with natural products. Save a bundle. Mostly, be kind to your animals. Spread dry 20 Mule team Borax, about 1 and a half to 2 cups per average size carpeted room. That is where the fleas live and breed in your house.

Leave for 2 weeks without vacuuming so the cycle covers eggs, larvae and adults. You will have eliminated your household fleas for at least a year and a half. If you get a few freezes, your yard should be pretty well rid of them as well.

Be careful in warmer weather what pets may bring in from a drop in. Your yard could become reinfested. Visitors arrive with a dog with fleas? Keep your yard flea free by asking them to contain their dog (safely, not in hot car).

Treat your animals flea allergy with Willards water xxx and watch the quick healing. Also a natural product that does some amazing things. Check on internet about Willard's water. Your pets will be so much better off and comfortable.

Deleting Temporary Files On Your Computer

Computer slowing down? If you've run Spyware/Trojan programs and cleaned out your 'Cookies, History and Temps' via the Internet Options under Tools in your browser, you might want to verify that the Temp files have been removed.

1. Close out your programs.
2. Go to Start (bottom left corner of your screen)
3. Go to Run; type: %TEMP% (in the datafield box). Your temporary file should open; begin deleting!

Decorate Bubble Wrap as Window Insulation

Just read a tip in Ready Made magazine about putting up bubble wrap on a window with tape to mask a bathroom window. I am going one step further. Because bubble wrap also has insulating qualities, I am putting it on a window that needs to be insulated for the winter. To make it decorative, I am going to color in some of the bubbles in a pattern with permanent marker to create a "Stained window effect" - (Great for the kids to do?) PLUS I am utilizing recycled bubble wrap from mailings I have received. So cost = $0

Dear Webby's Joke of the Day

The plane was only half-full. When an attractive young woman asked if the seat next to mine was free, my male ego soared. Soon we were chatting pleasantly, and she told me it was her first flight.

"Mom said to sit next to someone I thought I could trust," she confessed nervously. "And you look just like my dad."

Cat Peeing on Floor

Recently, my roommate and I decided to get two kittens. They are brothers and now, they are about 2 to 3 months old. We got them at 5 weeks old, and yes that is young, but they were going to be left in a box on the side of the road.

Flick is fine. He uses the litter box every time. Finn, on the other hand, recently started peeing on the floor. However, sometimes he will go in the litter box. No poop, just pee. Before, he was using the litter box fine. We haven't moved it or anything. Please help. How do we stop this?
