I was sitting outside hand feeding my favorite squirrel. This usually keeps her out of my bird-feeder when I heard this thump and felt something hit the side of my leg. Looking down I thought, WOW, what a huge bug. I reached down to pick it up and throw it into the grass when I realized it was a hummingbird.

Hummingbird SilhouetteI make my own hummingbird food and every year they come back. We love to sit and watch them feed. They fly right over our heads to get to the feeder. I am amazed how aggressive they can be with each other. They are amazing little birds.

Saguaro BloomingThis is a picture of our big beautiful saguaro cactus in our front yard. It is blooming and birds come to visit the flowers throughout the day. As big as it is it does not have any holes. It's amazing how huge they can grow and thrive in such hot environments. To have flowers bloom makes them that more fascinating !

Yellow Potato HarvestI won't give you any tips on growing spuds, they're easy as pie. And I should have left them growing in the container til the plants bloomed. But, I have so many things to water, I just get tired sometimes. I will tell you I started them from sprouting taters I got from the grocery store.

Baby BirdsWe have a propane gas tank and I needed to check and see how much gas we had left in the tank. When I lifted the lid, I found a nest of newly hatched baby birds. They are practically naked and haven't opened their eyes. They thought I was their mama. I'm hoping these four little ones grow up to be blue birds.

Glad and Pink (Gladiolus)I planted this "Pink Gladiolus" as a bulb. This is the 3rd year it has bloomed. I look for it every year. It makes me smile each year. I like to see it each morning and evening while I drink my coffee or tea.

Gift IrisIris are so beautiful. I never thought I would see an ugly one. I visited an iris farm where thousands of different iris were growing. I saw several ugly ones. One was a slimy, limey green, covered with rust colored freckles. Still, an ugly iris is pretty rare.

Relaxing Low Maintenance YardThere were actually no plants on the property when I purchased it. After the pool and fencing was done, I planted everything; 99 Areca palms, many fruit trees, mango, coconut, avocado, orange, tangerine, lemon, lime and figs. In 3-5 years, that's the payoff.

Cactus FlowerI was immediately drawn to this flower because of the contrast of the delicate blossom next to the sharpness of the prickles beside it. To me, it was a metaphor for life. The blossom also seemed to pull one into its deep center. This was shot in Pasadena, CA.

Viola At DuskSome of you might like this quasi psychedelic effect. It was purely unintentional. I bought a 6 cell pack of viola, and planted them in a hanging basket. They are quite showy, maybe some are a new breed.

Bearded Iris "Velna"It's six in the evening. I saw an opportunity to get what I thought would be a good shot of this iris, and I took it. Turned out pretty well. The colors are gorgeous but I particularly like the angle of the shot.

Out for a Swim (Canada Geese)It's that time of year again when we see the geese in our yard bring their new babies to show off. We live right on the river so we get a front row seat. They come up on our lawn and eat grass so they feel very protected here and we see the same families year after year, from babies to grownups.

Fly By (Hawk)I spotted this beautiful hawk on my roof top as I was arriving at the house one afternoon from being out shooting photos. I only had a few seconds to reach in my car and grab my camera, and as I did, the flight begins. Out of all the photos I took that day, this was the best by far!

Rainbow in the SkyI attended a wedding at Kumbagana Game Lodge. When we arrived, there was a light drizzle. The wedding was an outdoor event, so the start of the wedding was delayed for a few minutes. Luckily, after a quick shower the rain stopped and a beautiful rainbow appeared in the sky. The perfect blessing on the couple's big day!
