My 16th birthday is coming up next year on the 14th of February and I'm stuck on what to do! I can't have a party at home because I live in a small flat and I can't have a party outside as I only have a little garden. I live in Newcastle and there's not a lot to do in the winter. I would roughly like to invite 12 friends. Any ideas guys?

The most fun I ever had in early spring (when it was too chilly to be outside standing around), same age as you, was a scavenger hunt. We formed teams and raced around the small city collecting our items before meeting back at our small apartment for hot chocolate and to compare findings. A bunch of us had to sit on the floor but no one minded. Might be worth considering?

Up here a lot of the people your age are celebrating their 16th in a number of ways depending on their budget - a disco (catered or parents&friends bringing nibbles, with part of the venue hire cost including non-alcoholic drinks, and the DJ), a balcony hire at a local cinema (with the great movies coming out, this would be a fun way to celebrate your birthday with 12 of your best mates), a private session at the local ice skate rink, or a ceilidh (Scottish traditional country dancing - I think Newcastle has an equivalent traditional dancing, or maybe you and your friends would enjoy a night of Northern Soul?).

My sons occasionally had to chip in for part of the cost of the entertainment if it was pricey when they were invited to a birthday party. For example, on an outing to a ski hill or to paint ball, each guest paid their own way. The birthday family provided transportation and food. If you decide to do something indoors (such as the suggestions from Fugal Sunnie,) and the cost is too much for your family, you might ask guests to pay their own way. Also, I don't think that you need only to consider a private rental at places. I have seen parties at bowling alleys and pools where the guests just go as part of the public. Nothing wrong with that, for a smaller group (say 12).
Really? People ask guests to pay for part of the cost of a party that is obviously out of their budget??? If the host cannot afford all of it then they need to tame it down.
