Branches Dying on Norfolk Pine?

Branches Dying on Norfolk Pine - dying treeWe bought this pot with 5-6 thin trunk Norfolk pine. It had full of soft branches, but in 2.5 months they curled and dried from bottom up. We have no light in our place and so we got and use 3 light bulbs of plant grow lights 16 watts on top of it.

Our NP started 2 months ago to have the bottom branches stiffening and curling. Now some of them fall off at a gentle touch. We see the progression going up and now the top branches curl. What is it that were doing wrong?

We used to watered it once a week abundantly until the water drained in the bottom plate and I have to admit, I left the water sitting there for weeks until we started watching a few YouTubevideos on it and then doubted we should water it more than 1 time/month.

We noticed it has some little crawling flies at the top of the soil so we sprayed it with Sevin 500 insect killer as we saw it was safe and gentle for vegetables, so we assumed that it would be good. It killed the insects and then we removed thepieces of wood from the top of the soil that came with it from the store and replenished/replaced it with potting mix for plants.

We also stopped watering more than 1cup/month and sprayed it daily instead. We also got the best humidifier and placed it right by the tree.

But still, this curling and drying disease is now attacking the top branches and were desperate for professional help to save it from dying:/

Please help.

I think that you are over watering and feeding this poor tree. Here is a good site that will give you all the information that you need to grow the pine tree indoors. Follow the instructions and hopefully you can get it to live and have not damaged it too much. www.gardeningknowhow.com/.../norfolk-island-pine-care.htm
