Soak with water mixing with Clorox (regular bleach that can be bought from a departmental stores) overnight. Stuff dissolves everything. (05/12/2010)

Wow. The boiling hydrogen peroxide (3% was what I had on hand) was truly amazing. I tried several other "solutions", none of which worked. The H2O2 worked without elbow grease. I only had enough hydrogen peroxide to fill the pan to about 1", but I guess the steam enabled me to use a wooden spatula to simply push the burned sugar off. I took the pan off of the heat, and used an old toothbrush to clean around the rivets. Best solution ever.

I Burnt boiling sugar making hummingbird food. The sugar turned to a black block of charcoal and what didn't come out of the pan stuck to it like it was baked on the stainless steel pot. I tried the baking soda recipe didnt do anything. Vinegar nothing. I didnt bother with the dishwasher recipe because Iam pretty certain that would not have done anything either. So after much reading on this site the consensus was hydrogen peroxide. So I thought ok Ill try that. Unbelievable. I probably boiled it longer than needed but after about an hour and I kept refilling the pot to get the burnt residue on the top edge of the pot, also it literally poured out of the pot.

I had one tiny speck I used a sos pad on but could have done it with a sponge. No elbow grease! Seriously dont waste your time with those other recipes like I did this gets it done and now that I know how to get it out I will live a one less stress life lol. One other suggestion I didnt try was the oven cleaner. So I cannot speak to that one.

I followed this method - Put water in the pan so it does not go dry, then add 1/2 cup of baking soda. Bring to a boil and then turn heat back to simmer and let on for about an hour. It should come out. (08/11/2006)
