Candy Corn Hot Pad - hanging candy corn colored hot padI have never liked candy corn, and recently I learned that most people don't. But I do love the colors and this was a fun and easy project to share with you.

Total Time: 1 hour

Yield: 1

Candy Corn Hot Pad - supplies

  1. This is done with double yarns. With your yellow first, chain 16. Make a single in the first chain. Chain 1 and skip 1 (moss or linen stitch) across. Chain 1 and turn, and repeat the pattern for 5 rows.
  2. Candy Corn Hot Pad - work yellow yarn
  3. On the sixth row, add the orange to the yellow and make the sixth row. This will give the work a blended feel. Then rows 6 through 10, do the same stitch, but with two strands of orange.
  4. Candy Corn Hot Pad - on 6th row crochet with orange added to the yellow and then continue with two strands of orange

  5. Do the same with the white, blended with the orange. Finish out the last 4 with two strands of white. Weave in the tail.
  6. Candy Corn Hot Pad - finish orange and white rows
  7. The reason you have 4 times the yarn for the white, is for the backing. Make the same chain 16, same stitch and your 14 rows. Because of the base chain, the bottom of any work is a bit wider, and that is why the yellow is a bit taller.
  8. Candy Corn Hot Pad - sewing back to front
Candy Corn Hot Pad - backing ready to attach
  9. NOTE: If you are wondering why you chain 16 as a base, then only crochet 14 and not 16 rows is because for some reason, a single crochet is a tiny big wider than a row is taller. If you want this to be a 6" by 6" square, this is just the way it is. Make the back, leave a 3' tail to use for sewing them together. I then make a single chain of 16 for hanging, and tied them to the back. N-JOY!!
