Cardboard Window Monster

We are gathering up more cardboard boxes now during the pandemic with all the home deliveries. I thought it would be great to make my own thrifty window decorations this year for Halloween using those boxes. These little monsters are sure to make your neighbours smile.

We are gathering up more cardboard boxes now during the pandemic with all the home deliveries. I thought it would be great to make my own thrifty window decorations this year for Halloween using those boxes. These little monsters are sure to make your neighbours smile.

Total Time: 45 minutes plus dry time

Supplies:

  • plain white paper
  • acrylic paints (yellow and black)
  • paintbrush
  • cardboard box
  • pencil
  • scissors
  • X-acto knife
  • Scotch tape

Steps:

  1. Paint your white paper yellow and allow to dry. This is going to be the colour tint for the monster's eye. You can use any colour you like aside from yellow, as well.
  2. Cut out a nice flat piece from the cardboard box. I used one of the large sides.
  3. Use your pencil to draw your monster onto the piece of cardboard. I drew a tiny monster on a piece of scrap paper as an idea and copied it onto my cardboard.
  4. Use your X-acto knife to carefully cut out the monster, including the cutouts for the eye and mouth.
  5. Go around with your scissors to snip off any loose bits of cardboard.
  6. Paint the monster black.
  7. Allow to dry completely.
  8. Cut the piece of yellow painted paper to fit behind the monster's eye, but not leak into the mouth opening. Tape it on the unpainted side.
  9. Tape your monster to the inside of one of your windows where people can see it.
  10. Shut your drapes and turn on a nearby light. This monster is creepy cute!
