You need special cleaners for that. I would ask a gas station and a janitorial supply company what they use.

Are you talking a few drops on a garage floor or in a big space? Indoor or outdoors? I would need a few more particulars to steer you in the best direction.

I spilled a quart of diesel fuel on my garage on the floor. Tried to wipe it up and then sprayed water to try to completely dissolve it.

Hopefully you are asking about cleaning up a small spill.

  • It is usually recommended to use an absorbent like regular cat litter (not scoopable) to absorb the liquid. Spread on spill; wait 30 minutes and sweep up. Repeat at least once. Dispose of litter properly - usually at a designated place in your area.
  • Then you can use something called Greased Lightening or blue Dawn dish-washing liquid as they are capable of cutting the petroleum and washing away the remaining diesel.

Use a stiff brush or broom to clean it up. Rinse with several layers of fresh water.
