Cream Cheese Sweetheart Cake

Silver Post Medal for All Time! 449 Posts

Cream Cheese Sweetheart Cake - Two pieces of cake on a plate.Sweetheart is a type of cake with a cookie-like texture or more similar to brownies. It is just a simple cake but what I like most about it is the white glaze on top.

Today I decided to make one with an additional ingredient - cream cheese. I have always loved to make cheesecake but this one is a combination of both cheesecake and my favorite sweetheart snack.

Ingredients:

Cream Cheese Sweetheart Cake - Ingredients

*The sugar shown is natural granulated sugar, often called "raw". You substitute either white or brown sugar. I use natural sugar because it has a mild sweetness compared to white.

Steps:

  1. Mix flour, sugar and baking powder. Set aside.
  2. Cream Cheese Sweetheart Cake - Mix flour, sugar, and baking powder.

Please let us know how it turns out if you make it.

It's comparable to a square 8 inch baking pan. You could use a bigger 9x13 inch baking pan, but the cake will not be as tall.

What kind of grated cheese ? And the photos show BROWN SUGAR, but recipe only says sugar, so which is it ?

I believe that the sugar pictured is a raw or natural type of sugar, rather than brown sugar. I am contacting the author to find out for sure.

The cheese is similar to cheddar, it is a milk cheese from the Philippines. You could probably use any mild flavored cheese.

It's a natural sugar, similar to Sugar in the Raw. You can use regular white granulated sugar if you wish.

Reread her recipe it states raw sugar which is golden which she prefers over white

Raw sugar is brown....

She tells about the sugar in the description of how she makes the cake. Read through her comments with each picture and you'll see that she explains about the sugar. :)

I'm assuming that "natural granulated sugar" is turbinado, or washed raw sugar. Usually brown in color, its crystals are more coarse than white granulated and drier than regular brown sugar.

Turbinado is available at most grocery stores and whole food co-ops along side other forms of sugar and sweeteners.

Is 180 degrees C the same as 350 degrees F ?

Yes, just about. 180 degrees C converts to 356 degrees F. Just watch the bake time to make sure that they are done all the way through.

So sorry for the late response. I use a bar of local milk cheese. But cheddar I think is the best and most available. So try cheddar. Thanks!

Are these questions being answered and I can't see them? I am wondering the same thing about the kind of grated cheese used and why brown sugar isnt clarified in the recipe.

It looks like Katrine just responded about the cheese. It is a mild milk cheese, similar to cheddar.

As for the sugar, I believe it is a natural granulated sugar, similar to Sugar in the Raw. That is why it looks like brown sugar but not exactly. I'll see if I can get a clarification from Katrine about this as well.

Did anyone get an answer to what kind of cheese (I'm assuming it's grated cream cheese?) And if it's brown sugar ??

I'm getting clarification on the type of sugar but I believe it is a raw or natural style rather than brown sugar. So you could probably use either kind.

The cheese is a mild milk cheese, so she recommends using cheddar instead.

Tell us how it turns out.

Hi I'm really really sorry about the missing details. Well, I use a block of mild cheese but cheddar, I guess, is most available in your place. And I use natural brown sugar that is less processed coz it's not too sweet but still, it's up to you if you use the white sugar.

This should be in the ingredients above. It's natural sugar, I've seen it called "raw" or turbinado. You can use white or probably even brown if you wanted.

It recommends cheddar cheese but any mild flavored cheese could be used.

Let us know how it turns out!

Why grated cheese? Can I skip that?
