DIY Old Window Decoration - finished windowChoose an accent color. Buy clear glass pieces at thriftstores, garage sales, and flea markets. Examples include: small bowls, candy dishes, candle holders, or glass tops to containers. Use an accent color in a few dishes.

Randomly glue the pieces to a clean glass window with GE Silicone II. When all of the pieces are glued on, add clear and your accent color dollar store gems to fill in places where the window can still be seen. You can also outline the window frame with those two color gems. Finally hang from a chain when completed for your indoor or outdoor porch.

Total Time: 2-3 hrs at a stretch

Yield: 1

Supplies:

Steps:

  1. Find old window
  2. Clean both sides, let dry
  3. Place clear or colored dishes, etc. all over the window
  4. Glue each piece with Silicone Gel.
  5. Wait 24 hours for pieces to adhere.
  6. Glue colored glass gems to fill out empty spaces, and/or place gems around entire border of window.

What side of the window do you glue the plates to? And do you glue the the plates with the flat side next to the glass?

It is really beautiful, I tried the same decoration to hide a crack in a mirror. I used hot glue and it was perfect, until the temperature of the room changed and one by on all the pebbles I had glued fell to the floor.

Next time I will try the silicone glue.

How do you break the glass like the bowls? Your piece looks flat if you glue a candlestick or bowl it won't be flat

Are the glass pieces protruding out on the other side of glass? Thanks

Yes, one side would be flat from the pane of glass and the other would be protruding. A clever handyman could build a frame and put another pane of glass on the other side.
