DIY Wire Star Christmas Tree Topper - wire topper on a small table top treeWant a custom one of a kind Christmas tree topper? You can make your own with craft wire. This worked perfectly because I couldn't find a light enough topper for our 2 ft tree that I bought last year for 90% off.

Total Time: 20 minutes

Yield: 1 tree topper

Supplies:

  • gold craft wire (I used 16 g)
  • paper
  • pen
  • plier cutters
  • glue stick (or similarly sized circular object)
DIY Wire Star Christmas Tree Topper - supplies
 

Steps:

  1. Draw a star shape on a sheet of paper for your template.

  2. Unravel craft wire.
    3. DIY Wire Star Christmas Tree Topper - unroll wire
     
  3. Follow star template as a guide and bend your wire into the shape of a star.

  4. Once you achieved star, twist the ends together.

    DIY Wire Star Christmas Tree Topper - wire twisted with one long end

  5. Bend the star in a L shape.
    6. DIY Wire Star Christmas Tree Topper - bend the star up to create and L shape
     
  6. Begin wrapping the wire around a pen.
    7. DIY Wire Star Christmas Tree Topper - wrap wire around a pen
     
  7. Then wrap around glue stick cap.
    8. DIY Wire Star Christmas Tree Topper - several wraps
     
    DIY Wire Star Christmas Tree Topper - now wrap around a glue stick container
     
  8. Your star tree topper is complete. (You may need to make some bending adjustments to make the topper stand still, or stay on your tree. Also, wrapping method may vary depending on your tree.)
