Deadhead Roses for Better Blooms - pink rose and withered bloomYou should discard, or deadhead, spent blooms on roses so the plant doesn't expend any more energy on them. When you deadhead, the plant will use its energy to make more blooms, and larger blooms.

The best place to cut is right above a 5-leaf cluster.

You should deadhead the blossoms on a regular basis, all season long.

My roses have 3 buds per branch, but bloom one at a time. Do I dead head after each flower or wait for all 3 to bloom. Thanks.

You can deadhead after each rose dies, but be sure you cut just in front of the nodule before a 5-point leaf.
