Deep Watering Hanging Baskets and Containers

A simple way to ensure that water gets to the heart of your basket or container is to insert a piece of hose or pipe long enough to reach the centre of the container. For hanging baskets often two are required, one each side.

All you do then is use a small funnel inserted into the hose and water with a jug.
This ensures that water will reach the heart of the container or basket, as often in dry periods when you try to water the liquid will simply run off the hard soil onto the ground.

If you use water retaining crystals or vermiculite, as well, you will find your plants will always get that essential water to the important rooting area of the basket or pot. You leave the small pieces of pipe in the container with about an inch protruding. I have used this system for ages and it works a treat for next to nothing.
