Photo Description I don't yet know the name of this plant. I'll send this picture to the local ag agent. He will know. In the meantime, I've collected a few and am planting them in a rich soil. I'll start my TLC and Mojo, today. Actually, I think maybe this flower was once domesticated and was probably grown at a home that might have been on my property maybe 75 or 100 years, ago. I'll check back in a couple months with a name and the results of my endeavors. Could be a keeper, you never know. We shall see. Til then.....
I have several of these little plants growing wild in my vacant field. I've always mowed over them, thinking them rather insignificant. Today, I thought that with a little culture and TLC, they might at least be a bit more showy.

It looks to me like a Dianthus... or common name of Pinks. I have several that are red/white varigated flowers, some just all red. They come in many colors, sort of like a mini-carnation.

I have grown Dianthus for years. I am quite familiar with them. I was all set to tell you, 'No, it's not a Dianthus'. I'm glad I didn't because now I think you're right. I was going through my flower pictures on my computer and happened across a picture of Dianthus Freynii. I Googled that name. There are a lot of Dianthus Freynii. I couldn't find an exact match, but I'm sure that's what it is.
Anyway, it'll be a while before I will have a picture. I've got to start all over. Squirrels dug up and ruined the whole container I planted.
