Donating Fabric in New York City?

I would like to donate fabric (all types, including: velvets, wool, linings, some lace, etc.) in the New York City area. I live in the borough of Queens, but would be open to other areas. Any suggestions?

Put it on Freecyle and you should get several responses.

There are many places to consider donating to: women's shelters, church craft groups, senior citizen centres. You can also donate through charity shops. These are probably the least trouble and the most deserving.

Check the Rotarians or other charitable organization for groups of women who make quilts for the less fortunate? A quilt-supply store might be a good place to start inquiring?

Please try calling a local Hospice Thrift Shore and see if they can take them. This is truly a deserving charity that helps people of all classes, ages, race - none of that matters to them.

Most of their working people are volunteers (like myself) and I know they do good things in our area.

They may not have a pick-up service but many times volunteers will go out to pick up items/donations.

A quilters' group which can be found through a quilt shop would be happy to receive the fabric. The girl scouts, thrift shops, Craigslist, are all other options.

Look up the local chapter of Project Linus in your area via internet...they take donations of fabric and yarn to make blankets for kids in hospitals, kids of wounded warriors, in disaster areas, etc. A very worthy cause...

I go to a church where we support a missionary in providing women in other countries (DR, Guatemala, Kenya and Inda) with reusable feminine supplies (Wings). It takes 2 1/2 yards to make enough wings for one woman's monthly. Preferable fabrics would be any cotton or flannel fabric but we will take anything.

We have also made bibs for special needs children (beyond childhood age).

We're located in Virginia, but you could mail your items to us.

Thank you for whatever you can do.

Ann
