Other places you can see may want used cards they can recycle to do crafts or make new cards are day care centers, shelters, local charity organizations even prisoners.

When donating your old Christmas cards most organizations will only accept the front of the card. They ask that you check the front of the greeting card and make sure it isn't written on. You'll need to remove the inside and back of the card before donating your cards.

Retirement home, children's hospitals, youth groups, preschools, and sometimes schools will accept old greeting cards for craft projects. This will all depend on where you live and what groups will accept your cards.

Furthermore, before donating the cards it's important to read the rules for donations. Otherwise the organization can refuse your donations.

I would donate to Salvation Army stores. Any second-hand stores would take them. Women's shelters too.

Since your cards are "used" you may not be able to donate them to thrift stores as they would not be able to sell them.

  • I believe the easiest way to donate these would be to place a free ad on Craigslist or Freecycle.

  • There are quite a few families doing homeschooling that may like this sort of thing for some of their art projects.
  • Nursing homes and assisted living facilities use these in their craft projects.
  • Google with your zip and find nursing homes and assisted living facilities in your area.
  • Be sure to call first and ask for the Activity Director to try and find a suitable place for your donation.
