Drinking Straw Brush for Electric Fans

brushing fanWe use fans at our house, and I needed something to be able to help keep them in optimum condition. I made a stiff little brush out of a drinking straw, and now I can use that brush to keep debris from the front and especially the back of the fans.

Are you doing this with the fan "on" or "off"? This gives me an idea to turn the fan on and hold a feather duster or dust magnet cloth over it, but wouldn't those get caught in the blades? I also have a large box fan and may have to make a longer in length straw tube in order to reach the blades.
