Finding a Sister Who Was Adopted at Birth?

My mom died 5 years ago and before me she had another daughter that I was unaware of. She had her daughter at 16 and put her up for adoption at that time. I never knew that I had a sister until today when I asked my dad a question and he finally told me about her. He told me he never planned on telling me, but the question revealed the answer. I don't know where she is, who she is, or how to find her. Please give me some advice or lead that I can use so I can meet my sister I have never met before.

This one will be very hard to track down. I am not sure if she had a closed adoption for the child or even where the child was born. You may need to track down what hospital she had the baby in to start off with. Then try and figure out when the baby was born. From there find all the adoption agencies in the area. Without a lot of help from your family it can be a very long search and a very expensive one if you need to hire a person to help you out. I would suggest talking with the family members who are still alive and try and get as much information from them to start with. Find out when she had the baby and what hospital the baby was born in to start off with. Then go from there and check local adoption agencies and tell them what you have. They may or may not give you any information depending on the adoption status.

There is a pay-for service called pipl.com which is very good for searching. HOwever, it is a for-pay site, and pretty expensive.

If I were looking for someone, I would go on fiverr.com and ask one of the people who will do a search for persons, and some of them might have membership to the site.
