Finding a Teen Job?

I am about to turn 15 in June. I need to find a job so I can make some money to get a car so I don't have to walk to school on cold mornings and so I don't have to ask for a ride to go places?

The other poster gave some great suggestions. That being said, at your age, jobs may be difficult to find. For many jobs, you must be at least 16 because of labor laws. Baby-sitting is a great way to get some job experience. Best of luck to you.

Have you spoke to your parents or guardian if there is any arrangement that can be done so you don't have to walk to school on cold mornings? Or, do you have any friends who lives nearby that can pick you up. Perhaps your parents can work out some money to help with gas with their parents. Or, does your school offer bus services?

At 15, you will not be able to get a car yet. You will have to have a learnings permit, take courses, take a test, practice driving, another behind the wheel test. Then, owning a car will have a lot of responsibilities from maintaining the car, gas, car insurance, etc. It is very important to focus on your studies.

You will also need a working permit and their are limit on how many hours you can work since you are still in school.

On your free time you can find do some side jobs like baby sitting, asking to mow the lawn, pet sit.

the age thing is difficult. I know that STarbucks is pretty good about hiring high school students, and traditionally so have fast food joints

i know our local grocery, INgles (a chain like Kroger but in the South) all the cashiers are almost exclusively high school kids. Check there?

BTW everywhere I see is hiring for retail/service positions so this may actually be a good time for you

Check with your local Work Experience and Career Exploration Program because there are rules and laws as to what hours and how many hours you can work while you go to school..
