Furry Keychain - attached as a decoration to a handbagThis craft was taught to us back in the 5th grade and I used to display this cute little furry thing on my bags as a keychain. This project is shared with us at school to let the kids know that there are simple craft ideas that we can use or sell. It's actually a good idea for crafty entrepreneurs.

Supplies:

Furry Key Chain - supplies

Steps:

  1. Cut a large piece of newspaper and also cut 4 more small pieces.
  2. Furry Key Chain - cut one large and four small pieces of newspaper

  3. Now, crumple the large piece to form a ball. Do the same with the small pieces to create 4 small paper balls. Set them aside.
  4. Furry Key Chain - crumple to create one large and four smalls balls of paper

  5. Get the fabric and wrap it around the big paper ball to estimate it's size. See to it that when you cut the fabric it will fit and cover the whole thing. Do the same with the small ones.

  7. Insert threaded needle onto the fabric and do a simple running stitch around the sides so that when you pull it up it will create a shallow pouch.
  8. Furry Key Chain - open circle of fabric with a running stitch around the edge

Furry Key Chain - after confirming that the fabric will fit around the paper balls, use a running stitch to make a pouch

  9. Put the big paper ball inside the pouch and pull on the threaded needle to tighten and completely close it.
  10. Furry Key Chain - place the large ball inside the pouch and tighten the thread to enclose the ball

  11. Cut off the excess fabric. Do the same with the four small ones.
  12. Furry Key Chain - cut off excess fabric

  13. Make another ball that is a little bit bigger than the small balls.
  14. Furry Key Chain - make one more fabric wrapped ball and the four smaller ones

  15. Now, start forming the figure. Glue the last ball you just made onto one side of the big ball. Use strong hold glue so it sticks immediately. This will be the tail.
  16. Furry Key Chain - attach the slightly bigger one on one side of the large ball, it will be the tail

  17. Stick the four small balls under the big ball. This is where the locked stitch was located. The balls will serve as the feet.
  18. Furry Key Chain - glue the four small balls on the underside of the large one (side with the gathered fabric)

  19. Next, stick the wiggly eyes to the other side of the big ball, opposite the tail.
  20. Furry Key Chain - glue the eyes on the side opposite the tail

  21. Cut the art paper forming 2 tiny ears for an animal. Combine the two colors together and glue into place.
  22. Furry Key Chain - cut two ears from the art paper and add a smaller piece to the center and glue together

  23. Do the same with the mouth.
  24. Furry Key Chain - create a mouth in the same way and glue in place

  25. I added a push pin in between the eyes and the mouth for the nose. Push it in and make sure it's tight and intact so it doesn't fall out easily.
  26. Furry Key Chain - add a ball headed pin for the nose

  27. Since I don't have the key ring, I used a piece of paper twine. Loop it around the tail, twist and support with glue. It will serve as the key chain ring.
  28. Furry Key Chain - in place of an actual keyring you can use a piece of paper twine and loop and tie around the tail
