I have ivy growing all over part of my garden. How can I get rid of it quickly and safely as that part of the garden is used by my dog.

Manual Removal- is the best way! Get in there cut and pull away.Note-these are very strong vines,once cut it needs to be discarded if possible through trash pic up.There are chemicals to use,but not around pets!

I agree....manual pulling is the best. We get it around the foundation of the house and I find that if I follow the trails to the root, and pull it all out by hand--careful to get the clump at the end, it has the best chance of staying away.
It will not happen the first time you pull it all out...as it's roots are deep and even when you get the root clump it seems like there is some left. Usually after the second or third time it will stay away.
I have one stubborn patch on the corner and I am on time 4 of pulling. I am hoping 4th time will be the charm!
It does help after each time to take a hoe or an ice pick even and dig up and rake over the area looking for root clumps.
Good luck!! PS, I have made wreathes with the ivy strands...they look really nice and last a few days...I just make a circle, and weave the thick strands around until I have a pretty shape. I have had them last a week before I toss them!! I hate wasting anything :)
You will have to dig it out using a screwdriver.
Looks like you ahve a lot of work ahead of you. The best way to do this is by hand with a pick and shovel to dig out the roots. If you are looking for a fast way to do this you can try to mix some white vinegar in water and dump it on the roots of the plants.
