Snails in or out of your home is a problem. Here is what I do to get rid of snails.

Step 1
In your home, place several small bowls around the area you're finding the snails. Add some beer to these bowls. The snails are attracted to the smell and will go to the bowl. They will go inside the bowl and die in the beer.

Step 2
Use old pie tins around the outside your home. Cut up some cucumbers and place them in the pie tins. The cucumber in the pie tins creates an order the snails don't like. This will stop them from entering in your home.

Step 3
Around the outside of your home dig a few small holes and place plastic cups in these holes. Fill the cups half full with beer. This stops the snails from entering your home.

Beer traps!!! Fill the container with beer. When the container is buried, fill it about 80 percent full with any type of beer. Snails and slugs are attracted to both the yeast and the carbohydrates in the beer; they will fall into the cup and drown. Pick the snails out of the beer trap daily.

Snails have no bones, and no hard shell, they can squeeze through amazingly tiny cracks, as well as climb vertical surfaces and can even travel upside down. Too bad they are so annoying - and - plentiful!

Step 1
Snails have a good sense of smell and are often attracted to pet food, kitchens or pantries. Common entry points include the spaces under doors, holes drilled in the floor for water or gas pipes, joints along walls, cut-outs for furnace and dryer ducts and holes for electrical wiring.

Step 2
Snails are usually seeking cool and dark places or food sources. Don't leave dirty dishes in the kitchen for extended periods and empty your food waste bins regularly.

Step 3
Use diatomaceous earth. Diatomaceous earth is great solution for getting rid of snails. Just be sure to buy the non-toxic, food grade version. Diatomaceous earth (DE) is a type of powdered rock made from the fossils of tiny sea organisms. It has very fine, sharp edges which is harmful to the snails' soft bodies.

Step 4
DE is very safe to use indoors and will get rid of snails and many other household bugs. Diatomaceous earth is not effective once it gets wet so just use it indoors - remember - food grade only. DE can be purchased at Lowe's, Home Depot, farm stores, and on-line.

Step 5
If using DE just sprinkle it anywhere you have seen snails - counter tops, floor, bathroom, door ways, under counters, along the wall. It is not harmful to humans or pets. Leave it in place or vacuum after snails are gone.

Step 6
Now for outdoors. Coffee grounds are the cheapest and easiest way to stop snails from entering your house. Sprinkle used coffee grounds all around the perimeter of your house. Sprinkle as much as you like as it is good for the soil and plants and will not harm the structure of your house.

Step 7
If you do not have enough coffee grounds just go to any restaurant, drink/snack area at gas stations, or any place they serve fresh coffee and ask for their used coffee grounds. Be sure to have a container to carry them in. you may have to make several trips but snails cannot cross coffee grounds (or crushed egg shells or nut shells),

Step 8
Salt will also work but it is not good for the earth and will kill any plant it touches.

Step 9
Landscaping materials like wood chips and gravel near your house will also deter snails from entering.

Step 10
Be sure to seal any holes or gaps as that will also help your AC and heater work more efficiently. If you have gaps under your doors you can purchase door seals on-line that just slip under the door or attach to the door.

If you feel you need to have more then the new generation slug bait is effective, and not toxic to children, pets and wildlife. This can be found at most big box stores (Walmart type).
